Pro-Set Autographs & Odd Ball items

What does a case of Pro Set cost, that sounds really fun? I would love to pull one of those Stanley Cup Holograms that sell for a 100.00 all day long......

I was only 8 at the time, but one of the best cards ever... The Coaches, the Referees, the Trophies, the "Puck" La-Rondelle card...... Did they have any other odd ball cards that you have found?

I know in Pro Set I think the year before or after, they made a "Draft Day" card CC1 and the Pro Set Mask- Patrick Roy card (which I need a copy)....

There are quite a few oddball cards in their different products, like the Parkhurst Santa card and the Rink Rat card.
 
The Rink Rat is a toughie. You had to be a member of the Rink Rat club to get them. And there are two of them. Because they depict a cartoon rat, there's at least no competition with player collectors.

You can pick up a case of Pro Set for around $100+ shipping. Sometimes you can do better. 1990-91 Series I has the Stanley Cup hologram and a ton of errors and variations to go after, some of which are worth big money (Gillis and Burr). Series II contains the refs, coaches, and puck card along with most of the rookies, but it doesn't have nearly as many variants and no one magic card that can cover the cost of the case if pulled.

1991-92 often comes cheaper because there's less to find. Series I English includes the 75th anniversary hologram, CC1 (Draft Day) and CC2 (Roy's mask) and occasionally CC3 and CC4 (Falloon and Niedermayer.) Series I French includes a tough pull on a Roy auto numbered to 1000, but if you hit, you're in good shape.

Series 2 English has CC5-CC9 and allegedly a McLean auto that's not been proven to exist with a scan yet. Series 2 French includes a different Roy auto, but more common and less valuable.

1992-93 is a hunt for a McLean auto.

This is the 92-93 McLean. I have only ever seen one other copy.



I don't believe the 91-92 McLean auto exists. Never seen a scan of one or one in person. No information is even available on the web that leads to proof that the card exists.

McLean may have never signed the cards he was given and they were not inserted into packs.
 
I own the McLean too. Got it off of eBay years ago. Here's a lousy picture of it!

habsheaven, if you're talking about the Sutter, yes, Pro Set did the left side in French and the right side in English. I guess they assumed we could figure out what Ne meant.

I have now seen 4 copies of the McLean 92-93 pro set auto!
 
Found some interesting info this morning about the 91-92 Pro Set Autos:

French wax boxes contained randomly inserted Patrick Roy personally autographed cards signed and numbered on the back; 1000 of card number 125 (first series) and 1000 of card number 599 numbered 1001 to 2000 (second series). Roy also signed 500 cards for distribution in Canadian collector's kits. Randomly inserted in US packs were limited quantity of Kirk McLean autographed cards.


This gives me some hope that the card could actually exist!

Roy signed the french cards on the back? bah, I busted a case and gave away the cards. I never checked the back hahaha Not that the odds were good to pull one anyway but I still wish I had known :)
 
I'm a sucker for the ProSet (and/or every other box from that era) - find them on some dusty shelf in the back of a dirty card shop and the owner just wants rid of them at $5 a pop maybe. I am always game for opening 36 packs for $5, even it the cards that come out are just package filler.

Great to see the detective work put in here - I may have to slow down a little more the next time I go through.
 
Does the 91-92 Pro Set Roy Auto have 3 version: english, english starter kit and french?

Below is the starter kit auto:



It looks like the starter kit cards were signed in gold paint pen and the regular wax box version is signed with silver paint pen..
