Verified Trader,
This doesn't really fit in with the hobby, but I had to share it after reading cmcdonald1's post about his fight with cancer and the people that make a difference.
I will tell the shortened version, sort of.
I play hockey every Saturday morning with my hockey buddy John. Then a few weeks went by and he stopped showing up and had told us he would explain later.
Well it turns out that he ended up with stage 4 brain cancer and it is not a good prognosis. He is only 50. We all hope that this will turn out to be a miracle realized and we hope to have him on the ice with us again soon.
He had called me to install some cable in his house for all the rooms so he could have tv available to him wherever ( I work for a cable company, so that was the easy part) he was in the house as the doctor recommended he avoid straining himself up and down stairs. While I was there, I noticed Kiss memorabilia all through his house. It's easy for any collector, of any memorabilia to understand a persons obsession just by looking at it and what it does for them as a collection.
John shortly afterward was hospitalized, with lack of balance and vision issues, but still super upbeat in his fight against the disease.
I then figured, that since Winnipeg gave Kiss frontman Gene Simmons the key to the city, I would see if I could have him do something for my friend.
Well a week ago I received a call from the mayor of Winnipeg after I wrote him an email, and he said he was on top of it. Then I got some emails from the promoter that brought Gene to Winnipeg a few days later saying he was following up with it and doing his best to make it happen. And then finally, yesterday after Christmas Day supper, I got a phone call from John himself saying he just got off the phone with Gene Simmons and was absolutely beside himself of what we managed to do for him for Christmas. We were both speechless, but we didn't need to speak to know what we were both thinking.
It is nice to sit back and know that there are always many people willing to help you make a miracle happen. I just hope I can be a part of many more of them.
Thanks for your patience for the long read if you made it this far. I just needed to share this.
