Protecting your gem RCs! Help or opinion..

When protecting your high end rcs, obviously u use a one touch, as do I but how do u stop the card from sliding. Ive used 180pt usually because nothing else fits, but it slides and moves. Anything u guys use to make more snug without damaging the card?

Sometimes you can take a penny sleeve and fold the penny sleeve up, and put in inside behind the card, so you can still display the front of it, but you can also take up some of that empty space

I personally don't store any of my high end cards in one touch holders. They are fine for many patch cards and such but the bulk of my PC rookie and auto cards are not on thick stock. All of these cards go in soft sleeve, proper sized top loaders, team bags and are then likely in my safe.

The one touch storage brings in far too many variables for me - likely there won't be any issues but I don't want to sneeze when taking the card out of the one touch and end up having the unprotected card fall on the desk or floor. Everything seems much less risky, better stored and easier to evaluate condition with the access provided in a one touch - plus the "card" is not touching anything other than the soft sleeve.

To prevent your card from sliding, just add a thin decoy card (or cardboard) to your pc item. That usually does the trick.

Always put the cards directly into a sleeve then a top loader. It's the only way to ensure no edge of the card touches a hard surface.

Not a fan of the one touch for keeping cards mint, although they do display better.

I've had cards stick to the front cover of one-touch holders (after being stored for several years). When removing them it usually peels small chips out of the card surface. In the process now of removing them all and going with penny sleeve/top-loader/team bag combo.

any particular release stand out as being problematic to you? I try to give my one touches a once over every few months to check on them (not to play with my cards or anything... it's all very official) and would love to know if I should be eyeing anything up extra close.

Thats a good point, exactly the same here...had this happen with an ud premier collection 02/03 auto card, these cards are very sensible because of their black surface at the left front of the card...so I use one touch holders with an extra space (from surface to glas),...no further damages since this time...could also not report damages of edges or corners with that extra space...

Most of what I've had trouble with are 05/06 UD Ultimate. I like your idea MNwild, I'll give that a try too. Have thousands of $ in one touches so don't really want to throw that investment away!

I'm on board with those advocating the sleeve and top loader solution. Better protection, less sliding around. Throwing it in a team bag also helps. But imo, the best solution is always to have it graded in a BGS slab. Best protection bar none - most durable holder, the inner sleeve, etc. Somebody should create a holder that can securely hold a card in a penny sleeve, which protects the corners, etc. Don't know why this hasn't been made as it would better protect people's cards, and provide an alternative to those who don't want to going the grading route. Although one-touches are nice to look at, they share the same issues as graded holders made from PSA or BCCG - flimsy and cards always tend to move around in their holders.
