What is the Flyers cap situation? Just wondering if Aaron Asham has raised his value from the playoffs. I'd love for the Wings to scoop him up but not sure if that's unrealistic. Do you guys think he'd keep the same salary to stay in Philly?

Well I can bank that Cote, Krajicek, Pyorala, Emery, and Parent's contract will be off the books and gone.

Coburn will be tough decision because he is expecting a big pay raise, will the Flyers re-up with Carcillo? Will Carter or Gagne still be on the team? I really like Asham, but if he gets more than 2 mil per, good luck to him elsewhere.

I read somewhere the cap is expected to go UP 2 million. We will see after the SCF's

Based on the figures so far - the cap is expected to go up just about $2M.

1) Curious as to why you say that about Carter???

2) Can't see anyone taking a chance on Gagne with his injury issues (at $5M) - and no reason not to keep him if you would have to eat 50% of his cap figure anyways??

That leaves about 7 players with roughly $7M in cap space.

Are any of your minors players out of options???

Bruce

Thanks - but I have a little trouble understanding giving away a 25 year-old scorer that still has tons of upside. Especially when young goalie phenoms are such a risky business.
Sure Price could be an All-Star........ or a has been - who knows?

The only sure thing about goalies recently is that almost none of the high priced ones have brought home the chalice!!!

Carter's been long rumored to be trade bait. So many teams are interested in him, but not sure if Philly would give him up. Holmgren's also said he wants to bring in a young franchise goaltender (Price?) and would pursue one aggressively this offseason and someone like Carter would be pretty enticing.

If I were Philly I'd try and dump someone other than Carter. I mean doesn't Hartnell make like $4 mill a year? Also why not go after Niemi? He might come at a good price. Or you always have Turco....

Well, if Asham goes over $2 mill I'd be out if I were the Wings also. If it were around $1.5 mill a year I might bite though. Any scoring would be a bonus as I'd want him more for his hitting and occasional brawling.

Looks like they got 16 under contract for 52 million for next year...

Cap # is 48 mil. That should give them about 10 mil in cap space.

I think they need to keep Coburn. You cant replace those minutes in crunch time, and I feel his turnaround is due to Laviolette. Of course I am a little biased, lol. I think he has shown what he is truely capable of, defensively, in these playoffs.

They also need to seriously consider resigning Michael Leighton. Hes proven he can do the job. The others are depending on what they are willing to sign for. I love Asham, but sadly he is replaceable.

There is a rumor in Montreal that Carter and Coburn might be trade to the Canadiens against Markov and Price. La Presse report it two weeks ago.

I don't see how it would help the Flyers cap situation (Markov earn more than 5 millions $ a year and only have a year left to his contract), but we see weirdest moves in the League history.

Make sens for both team. Montreal gets a big center (wich they need since Jean Beliveau retired...) and Phily gets a young goalie.

But, honestly, if there is talk in Montreal medias about this trade, that means it would not going to happen...

Keep wishing MTL...

Homer is going to be smiling because he will have players that will be attractive to the open market. Briere and Hartnell have really looked solid in the playoffs.

Keep wishing Montreal???

If Holmgren got a call offering Price and Markov for Carter & Coburn, I bet he'd pull the trigger immediately. Markov (once back to full strength) is one of the best D-men in the league. A great passer and PP QB.
Price is the wild card. I still think he has a chance to be a star in the league.

Are you on drugs?? Price is worthless. Markov is no better then any of our D-men now.

Price is a work in progress. The kid is 22 years old.

As for your second point, if you knew anything at all about hockey you'd know that Markov is a fantastic defenseman.

Markov is 33 and his numbers fallen due to an injury last season. How long is he getting paid 5 mil per?

Price has proven he can not handle pressure. Markov is old, we already have two aging defensemen. Plus I have not watched him play much, but I doubt he will fit our style of play. I will take our top 4 against any other top 4 in the league, hands down. Why would you screw with that for a goalie who has proven nothing except he cant handle pressure?

And if you watched any hockey, you would know we already have a PP QB, and Markov is not better then our top 2 D-men now. I dont think he is better DEFENSIVELY then any of our top 4. We dont need him.

I think the Flyers would come out ahead in that trade, but really dont see it happening because of the cap.

Markov is a good defenseman, better than most of the Flyers defenseman if not all. (Pronger has been good in the playoffs, but the regular season..no way)

Price is a project goalie with lots of potential...maybe even a star.

Carter is a top six forward, but is often injured and does not play a physical style.

Coburn is average at best. He is playing well in the playoffs, but I still maintain he is average..
