question for Flyer fans!

I think the Flyers would come out ahead in that trade, but really dont see it happening because of the cap.

Markov is a good defenseman, better than most of the Flyers defenseman if not all. (Pronger has been good in the playoffs, but the regular season..no way)

Price is a project goalie with lots of potential...maybe even a star.

Carter is a top six forward, but is often injured and does not play a physical style.

Coburn is average at best. He is playing well in the playoffs, but I still maintain he is average..

Markov is not better then Pronger.

Price is not a star.

Carter is not often injured. This was the first year he had any major injury. He can play physical when pushed too, and is a better talent then both Price and Markov.

I would take Coburn and his potential to be a top two, and his age, over an aging injured Markov any day. And I may be biased, but Coburn's game turned around when Laviolette was hired. I dont think its a coincidence.

I've criticized alot of Holmgren's moves only to be proven wrong on many. I'd highly criticize that one too if he moved Carter and Coburn for Price and Markov. Sure it could turn out to be a win but that all hinges on the potential of Price. Habs would get a farily solid top 4 d-man who is young and has upside along with a 40 goal centerman and you aren't gonna find alot of selection for that commodity. Markov is definitely an upgrade offensively in the back end but I think with the offensive emergence of Carle and with Pronger still being around it's not a big need. Hopefully we can keep Kimmo at a discounted price. I like him better than Markov as he's a much better defender. Price....well you don't know what you're gonna get. He could shine, he could be shining cars in a year. I'd be willing to risk a draft pick on him but not a proven starting player. The only way I would do that would be if Price signed a relatively inexpensive contract and we dropped cap hit in doing so or we moved a guy in his last year of a deal we were gonna lose anyways.

Personally I think all deals aren't going to be all about ability but the length (or expiring) contracts that go with it. If Philly is able to sign some of their UFA's and RFA's by letting go of Carter and Coburn they might make a deal like that. To an outsider like myself I think Montreal is getting the better of that deal but if Philly can lock up other people by letting Carter and Coburn go it does seem to make sense.
Now if that were me I'd be PO'd if I were a Philly fan but I can understand why a deal like that were going to be made if my team was able to sign guys they might have to let go otherwise.

Defensively speaking, why would you sign Parent over Coburn? Markov is not an upgrade, DEFENSIVELY. Thats what wins come playoff time. Defensive ability trumps offensive ability on the back line come May and June. Ask the Habs about being held to one shot in a period of playoff hockey thats why they were gone in 5. Again, I am very biased but I think with the cap going up, and leighton proving he can get the job done, we need to resign Coburn and Leighton and work on the rest later.

No! Really? We could not tell at all unless you told us..LOL:pens:

I wouldn't trade a 40-goal scorer and a young defenseman who has been great in the play-offs for untapped potential and an aging, oft-injured defenseman.

WTB goalie that can steal a game or two. Paying one 40 goal scorer that can't seem to score on nets in the Finals with goaltenders in them. :p

Where do find one of those that is good year after year????

Goalie - not scorer ( we already got rid of Hossa ).

Seriously, I cannot think of a single goalie that has performed really well for the last 3 years in a row in the playoffs. I know people will bring up the same names: Brodeur, Luongo, Kipper, Nabokov.. whatever. By the time you lose 1 or 2 really good players to pay these goalies - then they have a below average playoff series and you are gone til next year.

Maybe the answer is to get rid of Carter and replace him with 2 really good young fast defensman. It looks like you have enough scoring starting to develop to take that chance.

Back to the original point, there are a few players who definitely drove up their price these play-offs. Asham, Coburn, Powe, and Leino (1 more year) for sure. However, Parent and Krajicek have been huge disappointments. Parent was supposed to be some great puck-moving defensive player, and he showed none of that this post-season (and very little in the regular season). Carcillo is a wash; when he's on his game, he's great. When he's off his game, he's a train wreck. But this team still has 2 games left, and then we'll go from there.
