Question For the Gamer Collectors

I just have a question for the collectors here that have Game Worn jerseys

Do you get your Gamers signed, or leave them as is?

I now have 3 of them, and I'm curious as to whether or not I should get them autographed or not.

Any input from anyone is appreciated!

I, personally, would never ever get a game-used piece signed.

To me, the jersey is a piece of history that is coming out of game-use, or from the team direct and thus, in its original game-used state. To get it autographed after the fact is altering its original provenance. To me, it is like wearing the jersey for ball hockey or ice hockey after owning it and counting the new puck marks as legitimate wear. Autographs or personal use decrease the value to me, no doubt.

Having said that, if the autograph is tasteful and on something like a fight-strap and not on the back number or front crest, I could live with it. Also, the older the memorabilia, the less choosey I can be. If the only Vezina jersey I could find is auto'd, well, I'll live with it

For me it would depend. I would never do it on a high priced jersey though if it weren't and I had no plans on selling the jersey down the road I would have it auto'd on the fight strap. Think of it this way if you did for some reason have to sell the jerseys you are cutting your buyers in half as I know it is a big no no among the game worn community.

I always try to get mine signed when possible because I know I probably won't move any of them and with being around an AHL team, players get moved yearly. Each jersey is special to me, and I am not really into selling them. I get specific players that I like and others that I have won through team promotions. Many of the ones I have are from specialty jersey nights that also get signed right after the game.

No signatures for me either - on a g/u helmet or stick, I'm ok with that but never on a jersey. I've purchased a few gamers that were already auto'd but I'd never get one signed myself - I prefer them to be just as they came off the player's back -

On milestone jerseys (e.g. NHL debut) I'll keep those unsigned. However, for any other jersey I like to try and get them signed. Displays way better to those you show it around and don't understand the hobby (i.e. that signing "lowers" the value).

I also find, if you do end up trying to sell an autographed jersey, you can probably get the same value from a non game-worn collector who's just a casual fan wanting to buy a game worn jersey. You just have to be patient in that case. Believe me, you have no idea how many casual fans I've talked to who don't understand the concept of an autograph lowering the value.

The general consensus is, keep them how they were obtained from the team/player.

Shirt off back leave signed, some teams like Hurricanes send there's out signed.

If you want a signature get an authentic signed.

However they are you shirts, do as you see fit.. Just dont expect a premium if you ever move them, expect a decrease in value.

I have my Clark Gamer signed on the numbers. I personally don't really care if it sells down the road or not. It was for me but I can see the pickle you are in. Here is how I would rationalize it. Are you keeping it or reselling it. If you are keeping it and don;t care what happens down the road, get em signed. If you are thinking of reselling.. thats a tough call. I will leave to the experts but my thoughts are to leave as is as people are skeptical of the auto no matter what COA you put in front of them. I mean there are reputable companies whose COA i will trust explicitly but do the home work first. I'd be wary of getting an IP auto if you are thinking of reselling it.
