With the recent economic events, will your collecting habits change? Will you be purchasing less, about the same or selling off some of your collection?

I personally will be cutting back on my purchases.

You gotta have a limit on what you think is comfortable. I have cut down ALOT. I spend only about $50 dollars a week on cards, compared to $200+ a week. I am also saving for a house so this is also why my collecting habits are changing.

i was actually thinking of selling off most of my cards. bad economy and another baby on the way. ill probably sell now and start all over later on.

I have really cut back on my cards. I am basically down to just hockey and mainly just NL born players and vintage singles. My 7 year old has started collecting so alot of my collecting cash now goes to him, its still alot of fun for me. I have also cut down drastically on my comic purchases.

I made the decision not to buy a lot of stuff from now on.. not for economic reasons but just because im tired of all the same ole same ole!

In the past few months I have limited myself to just my favorites year after year.

ITG Ultimate is always a biggie, 2 cases of A&G, Donruss Classic Football, legendary cuts.

Im looking at products that bring me the most joy and have the most potential of filling holes in my collection!

I've cut back to JMFJ and Derek Roy cards just because I can get more nice stuff for cheaper. But even there, I'm scaling back. Looking to get a place with the girlfriend soon and a new TV for my birthday in November (Hello, HD!).

I have noticed a HUGE shift in the type of purchases being made at the various shows I set up at.

Most noticable was this past weekend...I set up at a show in Las Vegas...I have a large hockey customer base there as I am the only dealer at the show with hockey product. At a typical show over the last 2 years I've been doing this show, at least 60% of my sales came from my "showcase items" (typically $25 and up cards)...this last show, I sold 2 cards from my showcase and a whole whack of cards from my $0.25 - $1.00 bins...

Collectors are looking to stretch their dollars a bit further than what they have in the past.....I am not complaining too much...this last weekend helped me move some inventory that I thought for certain would never move!!

:)

I have to agree with cutting back.Although I'm not from the states I do notice more higher end becoming available . Also with the same old story state of the hobby,I'm spending less and less. We really need a shake up in the hockey hobby
