Questions for Dr.Price

I was watching a video from the expo showing Dr.Price's personal collection of all-star jersey's. As I was watching, two questions came to mind:

As a collector of memorabilia yourself, how can you cut up hockey artifacts for the sake of trading cards? The Vezina pads come to mind, with only one known set in existence. Shouldn't they have been placed in the HHOF to be preserved for generations? If you wouldn't mind sharing, I would like to hear your story. Why cut up the artifacts?

The second question is a little simpler. What are you a doctor of?

I know on the Vezina pads, they were offered to the HOF first, but their offer was very low, almost insulting to the owner. Dr. Price then jumped on the opportunity to buy the pads and use them in his cards. Beyond that, I'll let the good Doctor fill in the blanks.
 
Dr. Price is a former dentist.. which is why he made the best tough customers hockey set featuring all the heavies in the NHL. I am sure he must have helped some of these players get dentures at some point in his career LOL
 
I've been to ITG's offices/warehouse before they moved. He's a collector alright. I still vividly recall the set of Eddie Shore's headgear serving as a paperweight in his office. And two feet to the left, a Sakic Team Canada game worn jersey.

I think it fair to say that Brian loves everything about his collection, but the stuff that goes on cards is the stuff he's willing to share with others. Talking a little with him on Saturday, I get the impression that the stuff in HIS PC would give most of us seizures. Or at the least, transports of ecstasy.

it'd be funny if the good Dr. is reading this and smiling looking at another full set of uncut Vezina pads sitting in a corner of his home. :)

You know Q, you bring up an idea I should pitch to Dr,. Price. As part of a future redemption MTO program, a collector could not only get their MTO but also get a free tour of his collection here in Toronto. Now that would be cool.. imagine going to see the jerseys and such and then picking which one you want in your card live..
 
Hmmm....with Dr. Price being a dentist, could you trade in an MTO for some custom dental work?

I enjoy bringing parts of my collection to the Expo and sharing many of these great treasure with true collectors and fans.

I will not get into the debate about what memorabilia ITG does or does not use for business purposes in our products.

On that matter you can have whatever opinions you want.

I will be bringing some pieces from my Goalies Collection the Spring Expo to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Between The Pipes.

We can debate the above in person at the Expo if you like.

Quincy, you nailed it.

When we first got the Toronto Card Show up and running, Brian was good enough to invite us over and there were certainly some sites to see lying around. You could tell that he's the real deal not just by his collection but by his words.
 
Sorry Dr.Price, now that I think about it I can see why this would start a debate. I was just curious because if I had some of the stuff that you have/had in your possession, I would likely build my own museum.

Hopefully one day I can get to one of the expos. It would be nice to learn about the business side of the hobby from someone that produces top notch product on a consistent basis and hear your side of the story.
