Good for the flames. Didn't have them as a playoff team at all. Good coaching, team leadership, and player development.
I am just as surprised that LA is out of the playoffs. Now a crazy consolation prize would be winning the lottery.

They said here on the radio that the Canucks and Flames have met in the playoffs six times. Four out of those six meetings the winner of the series has gone on to play in the Stanley Cup Finals. I hope it becomes five of seven to whichever team wins . . . you have to believe.

I could be wrong, but I believe the LA pick IS lottery protected, and the PIT pick is not.
Also, taking Hudler in the 14th round of a 16 team fantasy draft (that's 219th overall) was a great decision

LA's is protected and PIT's is not.
As far as Hudler goes - I had my doubts about his effectiveness here in Calgary - but this year he has really led the way, especially in guiding Monahan and Gaudreau. Somewhere along the line, if people were looking, he should get some consideration for MVP - but we all know that ain't happening...

Stuff like this has been my argument for years. The MVP in a majority of years doesn't go to 'the player most valuable to his team.'
If it did, guys like Alex Mogilny, Mike Vernon, John Tavares (to name a few) would have one, based on if they weren't playing on that team, each team would have only won 2 games all season. Nick Lidstrom? He was the cog in the machine for all those years, and not one Hart.
I'm not saying the winners aren't deserving every year, but sometimes there's a player that doesn't even get consideration, when they have an outstanding season that actually changed their team's fortunes in a drastic way.

Hudler has 1/3 of those points in the past month and 10 days. He's not the MVP of the entire league for the entire 82 games. Playing with two guys like Gaudreau and Monahan (who get comparisons as being a poor man's Patrick Kane and Jonathan Toews, respectively) has certainly helped out his season.
