Hey all,
Just a simple question, when it comes to Rantanen, do you buy buy buy or sell sell sell?

I've personally been buying, but do you see his value going up any more or will it plateau?

Cheers!

His rise isn't exactly a fluke. When you're an All Star in the AHL at 18, where most players start at 21-25, it should have been a reason to take notice.

He still has room to move. If that line is kept together, they could have some very big years together, especially since they are all still very young. He won't ever hit Crosby/McDavid heights in terms of popularity/value, but he could certainly hit Selanne values. Finnish players can command some pretty big demand from their fellow countrymen. The YG and FWA are likely to still have lots of room to move, especially when you consider guys like Kucherov and Tarasenko have seen their YG sold for $60-$80 in the past. The only thing holding Rantanens YG back slightly is e-pack.

His values will be reflected alongside MacKinnon. As more people realize that Nathan MacKinnon is a true superstar it certainly won't hurt Rantanen's values. Add that Colorado is an extremely young team and has some serious talent on the way, and you can expect to see Rantanen increase in value as long as the team continues to produce.

Guys on pace for 140 ish points. If he hits that, it will be the most in 20+ years. Very impressive. I am at a loss as to why his cards are not worth more. Especially his yg.

I think a lot of the value has to do with overproduction. This is the year epack started along with a guy named McDavid. There is likely 2-3 times more YG's out there then a guy like Kucherov.

The YG I'd imagine is due to the release of epack that year, however the price for his YG is still rather low. I'm up to 6 now and I haven't paid more than 30$ for a copy. Usually around the 25$ CAD range.

Just remember that there are just as many Rantanens as there are McDavids. aka: 30,000+ so there is almost infinite supply of them vs not as many collectors of someone like McDavid caliber.

I’ll keep it simple.... SELL, SELL, SELL!!!

Not yet I don't think.

I had 12 of his Young Guns that I picked up two years ago for $1.00 ea. Sold them at the end of last season for $200 for the lot. Same lot would be worth $300-$360 today, and still climbing slowly. Just when you think the interest will die down, he scores 4 points and it goes back up again...LOL

I do think that the ceiling is a little lower due to the volume of them as a result of ePack, they will probably even out at $40-$50 CDN ea maybe?

I just dug thru my stash of YG Series 1 from that year, i am amazed that as much as i bought chasing McDavid (pulled 3 i think) that I don’t have a single card of Rantanen... except the one Canvas YG of his.

Available if anyone is interested in buying, shoot me a PM.

Sold his Exquisite 96/96 yesterday for $1440.

Not sure what I should do with the 96/249 The Cup. Hold I'm thinking.

I'll be honest, I never thought Rantanen would be THIS good, but his development trajectory has been like a rocket to the moon. I Can't imagine he will maintain this forever but I also think he will be a very good player for a long time.

I was skeptical Colorado would turn things around, but they actually look like a team that could be a big time power again within the next couple years. They have a kid coming in, Cale Makar, who is an unreal offensive defenseman, I would say he reminds me just a little of Drew Doughty or Karlsson on the offensive side of things. he's very talented. Then, depending how awful Ottawa does this season, the Avs could be adding another big time talent.

You guys know all the other pieces they have, so that said, I think Rantanen has some more upside but I would hold a bit more and see if Colorado's team success and additions of other young stars boost their popularity and winning ways.

I started collecting his YGs at the start of last year or so. I got up to 27 of his YGs. I was picking them up in trades or bring them at $8-12 Canadian sales value. I ended up trading them all for these four cards;

Matthews YG PSA 10, Marner YG BGS 9.5, Roy Priority Signings /9, Price Cup Scripted Stick

I think that his YGs have more room to grow for sure but his cards have grown in value a whole lot.

He’s been my favorite player since his first year. Still remember him getting his 20th goal in the last game of his first season. That was a terrible years for the Avs, but you could tell he was good. I had about ten 4C cup rookies and other cards. Sold them all now as needed the $$ for something else. His 96/249 will be with me for a while now or a crazy offer. He’s so fun to watch. Been telling people he’s the real deal. Got laughed at. More upside to him yet in my opinion.

He sure has been exciting. I think either way you're ok. You sell now he's hot, you will do good. He's got a lot of potential so holding on isn't really a bad idea either really.
