Reds fire GM

The Reds fired GM Dan O'Brien today:

I'm glad this happened. The new owner has a good reason in wanting his own hand picked guy to be the GM. Hopefully the Reds can get turned around quickly and contend in the NL Central.

I have to be honest I didn't think O'Brien would last this long. Wasn't he the one that instructed the minor league coach's to have the team not swing until they had a strike on them or something like that? He only been the GM maybe two years now I believe. Yeah I can understand hand picking your GM but if he was outstanding he probably would still have his job....HM this is why the Detroit Lions need a new owner---get rid of their GM hahaha jason

Yes he is the guy that wanted players in the lower minors to take first strikes. He also put in strict pitch counts with young pitchers in lower levels to prevent injuries. The first year they still had injuries and last year I think it improved some. The Reds haven't had the greatest track record with developing high draft pick pitchers. They all end up having tommy john surgery before making it past AA. Hopefully they bring in someone who understands how to develop from within. That's what they need.
