So my wife & I are on Spring Break, and as soon as classes were out on Friday we loaded up & made the 5 hour trip up to Denton. I had ordered tickets to the Mike Modano Jersey Retirement night way back in August, as the event coincided with our break, and the weekend was upon us. I couldn't wait.

I didn't go as picture-happy as I thought I would (I only have an iPhone) mainly because I just wanted to soak everything all in and make some memories...not fumble about with a camera phone. Afterall, this was my idol...my favorite player of all time aside from Mario Lemieux who was finally getting his jersey retired. I've been to an All-Star Game...I've been to the Modano tribute night...but I have never been to a jersey retirement. Here are some shots I took of the weekend:

Entering the AT&T Plaza/American Airlines Center in downtown Dallas:

The fans had already been lining up for the Green Carpet arrivals of the likes of Matvichuk, Lehtinen, Belfour, Norm Green, Tom Hicks, et al. I already have the majority of their autographs, so I simply stood back and watched everyone come in and watched the fans cheer.

Then, I saw this guy enter the building:

As we entered, we had about 30 minutes to get to our seats & Sabrina & I wanted to snag some Modano merchandise before it flew off the shelves. This is our assorted haul, which includes a special commemorative 9-card set done by Panini.

We got to our seats in SEC 316, which was right in front of the older retired numbers of Broten, Goldsworthy & Masterton...& right where Modano's was about to be raised. We had F A N T A S T I C seats! We could see everything!

The ceremony started promptly, and everything was very emotional and well done. The only thing I had to complain about was the lights were way too bright and the glare was bad on our photos, but that was negligible. I wasn't complaining too much. I was flip-flopping between camera & video when they began the banner raising.

Needless to say, the evening was perfect! Modano's #9 is in the rafters, the Stars won 4-3 and all my guys scored goals that night! Benn, Chiasson, Seguin & Cole...plus my other guy Zach Parise was named #3 Star of the Game! It was awesome...save for Kari getting hurt. Timmy Tom played very well in relief though. Definitely looking forward to him getting some time in the crease while Kari is out.

On Sunday, my mother (who is a professional cook...it's why I am fat) made crawfish etouffee. No words are needed! #CreoleNation

Then on Monday we took in the Blue Jackets game to see our friend Jack Johnson play. We arrived early so we could catch warmup and maybe chit chat with him a little, but since they were on a back-to-back his schedule was really condensed. However, Boone Jenner came out and we were able to snag some ink from him on Sabrina's old CBJ sweater!

Once they came out, we went a little JJ crazy:

Needless to say, these are the last pictures we took, as by now everyone knows of this game & the postponement. So aside from Kari and Rich, it was a phenomenal weekend.

Now on to some mail, as I had a mailbox full once we came home.

Alex Chiasson pickups: (some on eBay, some in C&C SPx GB)

Val Nichushkin pickups: (same thing)

These next 2 Nuke pickups were freebies from an anonymous party (to you, not to me) and I didn't even have to buy multiple spots to some ridiculous $300 multibox group break to get them!

Jack Campbell hits from SPx & SPGU:

Tyler Seguin pickups:

PC pickup from Sports Card Direct (SCD):

and some freebies Darren tossed in...why? Because he's amazing like that, and SCD is an amazing place as well to sell your cards! It's such a shame that others don't see that!

And finally, I was able to snag an extra pack of the Modano Panini set, and this is what the set looks like:

So that's everything. Hope you enjoyed the show. Thanks for sticking with me this long. Comments are appreciated.

Besides the peverly situation that weekend looked amazing. Great to see Modano's number go up, well deserved

Congrats

Super jealous you got to go.

The pictures look great, I hope they can hold on to a playoff spot and Kari is back soon.

Question for you, my dad did not end up going so I have to try and find the replica banner online. I have only seen one guy selling it for $80 on the bay. Did all in attendance get a voucher?

Yes, all in attendance got a voucher that allows them to pick the banners up later. They were not ready in time for distribution.

Awesome show! Thanks for the tell, I can tell you had a blast. I went to the Naslund jersey retirement night a while back and it was the best

Quite an honor to be there for the jersey retirement of ole #9. He was one of my North Stars favorites. I was at the 1987 jersey retirement for #19 Bill Masterton at the old Met Center and watched them raise it to the rafters. Was a teary moment when his family came out on the ice in honor of the only player in NHL history to die as a direct result of injuries suffered during a game. I'm sure there were some teary eyes at the Modano one, too. I know I was choked up....I was watching on TV (they were playing my Wild). Touching moment and glad they did it when the other Minnesota team was visiting. I remember his last time to Minnesota against the Wild as a Stars player and after the game he came out for a salute wearing his old North Stars jersey. So cool!!!

That's why I have a small North Stars Modano collection myself. He was a good one!

Thanks for the show, Samuel!
