Returns from MNT Grading

I have a batch of cards with BGS, sent back in September, but in the meantime decided to try out MNT while I wait my six months for BGS. At under $20 CAD each including shipping, it was also about 1/2 the cost of BGS. Also, all of these are PC cards, so not concerned about resale at this point.

Turnaround was pretty decent, considering how the mail is going and how their competitors are doing. Order was submitted October 27th and dropped off at the post office the next day; I received the cards back January 6th. The cards were very well packed (and they even returned my toploaders!).

I think the slabs look great, they stack together nicely, and frankly are almost identical to the BGS slabs. The only thing I don't really like is that the inner sleeves have wrinkles (the photos really accentuate it); BGS doesn't have that issue.

As an aside, I saw a photo of a MNT 10 on FB today; they have a pretty cool looking prizm effect label.

In terms of grades, they came out pretty close to my estimates. Three came out 0.5 higher, the Laine was the only one to come out lower than my estimate by a 0.5 grade.

I mostly focused on YG's but since all my other Flames ICE RC's /99 are all BGS graded, I thought I'd get these other two lower value /99's graded with MNT.

All in all, quite happy with MNT and I think I would use them again for lower value PC cards.

Some really nice cards in there. I agree the MNT cases are very much like BGS and the turnaround is great.

I have been very lucky in my submissions so far that I have not had any issues with the wrinkling of the inner sleeve but your pictures really show it well. Still looks great IMO, some really nice protection for your PC cards.
 
I've only heard dribs and drabs about MNT so I am wondering where they are located, but I assume they are a CDN company?

Also, is there an option not to have those inner sleeves installed/used, or is that what they use to hold the cards in place in their holders?
That would also bother me and if it is not an option, then it is highly unlikely I would ever use them.

They are located in Brampton ON.

The sleeve is an option, you do not need to use it.
 
You will still take a $$ hit whenever they are sold.
Yeah I know everybody always says they're for my Personal Collection I'm not selling them but then stuff happens and that's when the dollars will come into play.

Most likely, but then again if word gets around and they end up being good, accurate and consistent with their grades, then they may just catch on, especially for us CDN collectors.

Speaking of which, has there been any horror stories about them or has everything been fairly positive for the most part?

I have some hockey and baseball cards I'd liked slabbed, for protection mostly, and seeing how they are not far from me, they are also starting to grow on me.
 
I really like the look of the MNT slabs, and this appears to be a great alternative to PSA and BGS for the Canadian collector base. I really hope they take off, especially for hockey.

Has anyone gotten a 10 from them yet? Maybe I've missed some posts, but I see a lot of 9 and 9.5.

ETA: I have only also seen modern. Does MNT grade all years, or just modern cards?

I am wondering that as well as the vast majority of the cards I'd like to get graded are vintage.

Wouldn't people with this mindset have said the same about BGS when they first joined the card grading market? Back then, PSA had a stranglehold on the hobby.

PSA is the trusted tpg who currently brings the most money based on what I have seen and others have said.
Personally, I don't like them as I think they are inconsistent and favor mass submitters, let alone all the trimmed and doctored cards they have graded.

My opinion won't change a thing as cash is king, but I do, more and more, see SGC cards catching up in prices realized and the amount of SGC cards now for sale in auctions and on EBay.

I think by far it is more modern since they closely align to the BGS look.

The cards seem to be properly graded, two examples above appear accurate.

Problem is both those cards sold for less then what they would have ungraded. There a number of worse Messiers in particular that have recently sold ungraded for more. When you factor in the cost to grade, you are underwater by 20% of so.
 
I guess if you had some extra cash and wanted to gamble, you could buy up a good number of MNT graded rookies at the lower price points and hold them hoping that down the line the company's rep will increase along with the value of their graded cards.
If you are just using them to slab the card anf you are ok with the valuations that grading them bring (at least presently), then why not save money and use MNT.
 
Personally I have watched a few videos on submissions
They aren't exactly throwing an abundance of pristine & black label's out there.
Seems they are grading fairly or even a little more critical than PSA or BGS.
I have picked up some graded cards recently from both of the above.
Sure a 10 looks great on the label, but I am not 100% convinced that if I had some re evaluated that I would get the same thing back.

Without being invasive here I have this one here says it's a 10
But the whole right side of the card seems a little questionable to me.



just my opinion but give it time I think collectors will warm up to them.

The wrinkles are a little unfortunate.
But overall nice haul.
