Risebrough done as Wild GM

Wild owner Craig Leipold basically inherited both Risebrough & Lemaire when he purchased the franchise. So what with his contract ending, it was a good opportunity for the owner to set his people in place...

Maybe a new GM and coach will keep Gabroik and rebuild around his scoring talents and stop playing the defensive style...snooooooze. They have a fantastic goaltender and some great players, they could easily build that team into an exciting, winning team.

That is great! I am glad to see him gone. He should have made a move before the trade deadline this last season. I will miss Lemaire but good riddance to D.R.!!

I am extremely happy to see him gone. I am tired of watching him do absolutely nothing come trade deadline. The only time I was ever happy with Mr. Risebrough was when he picked up Demitra and he blew that by focusing on Rolston and ignoring Demo in the offseason. It i just too bad they didn't dump Tom Lynn as well....but beggars can't be choosers.

About time, Risebrough has had his "chances" to succeed and especially this year. He did not make one move at the deadline.

While I agree that it will be interesting next year, it cracks me up about people labeling Minnesota's style as "infamous" or "boring" (not singling you out, Chris, I hear it often). It's like people think we are the only team in the NHL that plays some sort of the trap. In fact, many teams use a form of the strategy. Whatever. It was time for a change, regardless. I'm looking forward to it.
I personally think without the system in place we wouldn't have even had a sniff at the playoffs with the lackluster, injury ridden squad that DR put together this year. I blame the former GM for missing the playoffs, but congratulate our former coach for even getting us close. Thanks for the memories, Jacques.

That is very true. I can only dream how good it could get now. I hope they do somthing big now and drop this Defence first thing. I would like to see some wide open hockey.

Its going to be diffrent not seeing Lemaire behind the bench. D.R didn't help this team from the get go. To put a Cup contending team together you have to make some moves at the deadline to benefit the team. They need to get some players to create more line chemistry. The talent is there, they just have to get a few players to link the lines together. I don't think the Wild games are boring at all, sure they don't put up 6 goals a night but defense is just as important as offense. The defense and goaltending is not the problem. They need the offense to start lighting that lamp on a regular basis. All I know is they better deal with Gabby first thing, if they loose him they are starting from scratch on the front end. I am looking forward to a new season and hopefully some new changes.

Hmmm...I think this is okay. Change is usually good. But I wonder...if the Wild get three more points and squeak into the playoffs, does this happen? In other words, what a difference a couple of games can make.
Doug was one of Nick's biggest supporters, so while I don't mind the change, I have to give him a big thank-you for everything he did for the team and especially Nick. There were times early in his career where Lemaire wanted Nick out of town, and Risebrough would not have it. If Lemaire had a GM he could control, I'm not sure Nick is in the NHL right now.

The only reason I don't like this is with DR gone, so is Bouchard's no trade clause since it was a verbal assurance

Lemaire in my opinion was an absolute wizard. He continually took the mediocre talent given him by DR and took them to the verge and even into the playoffs. After Gaborik and possibly Koivu the team has very little "star power" to it. and with Gabby out 90% of the season they still made it to within 3 points of the playoffs.
Risebrough cost the Wild the playoffs by NOT making any effort to improve the team at the deadline. When Dan Fritsche is the best you can do.....well time to move on.
