Rob Blake retiring

Blake was a huge part of my childhood. My second favorite defense man of all time behind Marty. I loved his style. He could quarter back a pp put the puck in the net and also play actual defense. And don't forget those huge hip checks haha. I think kings fans showed little class by booing him this year when he played in La. I never understood that. My favorite moment was in the early 90's when he got into a fight with Trevor Linden and Linden turtled after getting punched once lol

I don't think HOF. Hall of very good. 1 Norris, 1 Cup (on a stacked Colorado team) with fairly steady production throughout his career. I don't think Sergei Gonchar gets in, I don't think Chara gets in, and I don't think Blake gets in.

I'll join the minority. Good not great, very overrated if you ask me. I wouldn't put him in the HOF. Though he will probably get in.

Which defensemen who began their careers in the 90s and 00s would get in then?

Lidstrom
Niedermayer
Pronger

I think Blake would be in the tier under these guys, but will probably make it in eventually.

That's it, for me. You don't HAVE to let players in just because there aren't a lot of guys at their position. 2nd tier players should not get in. Gonchar, Blake, Chara, Rafalski, D. Hatcher, Jovanovski all were dominant defenseman at times, but none of these players, to me, should be in with Bourque, Coffey, Orr, et. al.

For what he has accomplished thus far, I would say no for Chara, but he still has some strong years left in the tank. If the Bruins win the cup or he adds 2 or 3 more Norris trophies.

I would say no to Rafalski, Hatcher, Jovanovski for sure. Gonchar and Blake though are tougher. They were never the "best" but they both have/had been at the top of defenceman consistantly for over a decade. I'm not promoting them to enter the Hall, just saying that it would be a little bit of a debate in order to decide.

I just to a quick run at the list of d-men, and I think Blake would be in tough to get in. Perhaps the worst defenseman to get in over the past 25 years has been Murphy (I'm not saying he is bad, just it is a tough list to crack)

If you let Blake in then Rafalski has to get in. More cup teams for Rafalski and a bigger catalist on any team he's been on more than Blake. Also Larry Murphy was on 4 cup teams and one of the leaders on every one.
If you open the door and let Blake in than guys like Rafalski/Gonchar and others have to get in also. I would just say no to all but that's my own opinion.

Yeah, I am not saying Murphy is undeserving, just I thought of all the 80s and onward defencemen to get in, he was the worst. But on a list that has Leetch, Bourque, Coffey, Stevens, MacInnis, Potvin, Robinson, Langway, Park, Fetisov it is not exactly a hit on him.

After checking that list, I don't think Blake will get in.
