Rookie question

In the past the Black Diamond wjc cards (Thornton, Lecavalier, Luongo, etc.) were and are considered RC's. Now the rule is a guy has to play in the NHL before he can have a card as well as debut prior to the All-Star game that season.

Then there's this Jaden Schwartz kid in St. Louis. Just called called up a few days ago, scored a goal in his first game, and as of the end of the 2nd period tonight has scored again. Soooo we have this here:

What's this considered now? His true RC or a gimmick? Think his YG, Cup, etc. will be his RC or will people pay a premium for this? Still technically part of a "set" although it's a multi-sporter.

Hmph. Looks to me like UD's attempt to get around the "rule".

World of Sport is a non-NHL licensed set, so I'd imagine those will be treated similarly to ITG H&P.

It would a "pre-rookie year card." All none hockey products or all non NHL licensed products don't get the term "rookie" in front of them.

There term rookie has a couple meanings.

1) It's standard meaning, the very first card made of that player. If that was the case, then technically speaking ITG beats the punch to all the cards.

However, what is adopted is this one

2) Any first-released cards by a company with an NHL license in a NHL licensed product. UD World of Sports does not have a NHL license therefore it is not.

Counterpoint to the NHL License..... is WHA RC from the 70's.


Shall we just come to terms that RC means something in the 70's, something different in the 80's, 90's etc. Nobody does XRC, for instance.
