Sales threads and prices?

I know this has been discussed before but I still don't understand why people can't list a price. Half the post in the sales area have PM me for a price. Over the past few weeks even the I want to buy post are full of PM me for a price. People go to these threads respond with a picture with a note added "I have this PM me if you want a price".

It seems like there are more and more of these type of post. Its getting to the point where its pointless to even go to that section anymore. I thought it would be interesting to see everyones response. Since there are so many people doing it I guess the No's will probably win regardless.

It does seem like an endless silly dance sometimes. Whats your price? I dunno, whats your price? hmmm...I dunno...whats your offer? ......blah blah.......I understand your frustration. On the other hand, some people want to discuss the financial side privately thru PM's. Personally I post my prices whenever I can, but I admit I prefer to discuss the details privately thru a pm.
I can understand why some are frustrated when prices arent posted, but lets be honest, most buyers know what they are willing to pay on a given card. So I see things from the sellers side too. Some sellers say, why not just state the price you are willing to pay? When you post your prices people try to negotiate anyway most of the time..."whats your best price" etc...even when you have your prices posted! So I can understand as well when a seller says to a buyer "you know what you are willing to pay, why not just state it....."
I dont think there is a solution to this. Some will post prices, some wont, I encourage sellers to post their price.....but to buyers I say....dont get stressed, just make an offer......you probably know what you want to pay for it anyway.

I could go either way. I usually PM the seller asking for their best price anyway, so it's irrelevant to me.

If it says "PM for a price", when I PM, I want... a price.
If I PM for a price and I get "what's your offer?" that IMMEDIATELY ends the discussion for me.

Know your cards.
Know your market.
Be reasonable.

I find the make me an offer to be just as bad as look through my bucket. You don't go into a store and see make me an offer. If you're selling, you have a price in mind before you post it. Save some time and headaches and list the price.

Unless its a card I really want I wont even bother to inquire about a card if the price isn't posted. There have been lots of cards i needed posted in the for sale section but because there is no price I just go onto the next post. I just don't have the time or patience. People think that by not posting they will get an offer beyond what they are expecting in their head but if they have realistic prices listed the cards will sell much faster

I agree with frankiefives idea of a marketplace here on HI. If only there was a way to it.

Who the hell cares? If you see a card you want take the time and work a deal whether there's a price listed or not. 99% of the time even if there is a price listed the enquiring party wants to haggle anyways.

I wonder how many would admit it, but when people ask for someone to PM an offer, they're running an auction. Whomever comes in with the highest price wins. If you think you are the only one making an offer, you're wrong.

Most anything I have sold on HI I have had prices for. If I wanted to run an auction, I would sell on eBay. Either way, it doesn't matter to me unless it's a card I REALLY want.

I agree with triple B on this one,it's true most of the "make me an offer or pm me" are running their own auction,if i wanted that i'd go elsewhere lol.I've given up on the pm me ones now...I go after prices listed now.I usually sell mine for low bv's thats it so there's no complaining lol not askign for anything big heheh.I have a problem with people who want a 60 bv card for 5 or a 200 one for 25...
No one says give em away but nobody says ask sky high either,inbetween is kool by me.Personally I would love a buy it now or best offer option too.But I only buy with money orders and want money orders,I'm done with paypal lol,so im kinda an outside opinion.

Sometimes I will say Pm with a price, the seller then says "I have no idea, make me an offer" I say ok, how about $5? They say "No way $&% you!" I say "Oh! So you do have an idea???" lol

I think the fact of the matter is, there's no stated rule, and there's no standard hobby etiquette on the matter, so everyone does what they think will work best for them. Personally, my response depends on how badly I want what is being sold, or how badly I want sell what I am selling. I wouldn't oppose a rule mandating prices being listed though.

I REALLY dislike "how much are you willing to pay?" I feel like the person is trying to take me for my money, which is too bad because I really like the generosity that CAN exist on HI. But when if a seller is only looking for 15$ , and asks me what I'm willing to pay and I say 20$, that's bad karma I think.

I'm sure asking for PMs on prices also results in a lot of PMs from people (sometimes like myself) who are hoping a card is going to be cheaper than the seller is looking for, which just wastes everyones time.

i went to sell some cards here and i listed about 40 cards with scans and had said PM me a price if interested. Their were some pretty nice cards in there as well. I got a total of two replies. I never sold any of them. I then relisted everything about a month later and put prices on them. I got 12-15 PMs and I sold I think 8 cards. I was looking for the same price both times bu when people have an idea what you want then you have a base to start from.

I would love to have a HI Marketplace where it only has BIN or BIN with best offer. It is free to list cards and it is for sale as until it is sold or the seller cancels the card.Then we could even have a percent or two go to HI to generate some money. It would be so much cheaper to sell and a whole lot less fees.

From the buyers side I will open a sales thread and sometimes see something that catches my eye and if there is a price I either PM the seller I will take it or I decide to pass. There are definitely some cards I had very little interest in so I wouldnt have PMed about but liked the price I saw and bought it cause it seemed like a deal to me. So I would suggest to sellers to put prices on things.

From the sellers side. My collection has gone so many directions through the years and the pricing has changed so much since I bought some of the cards I dont know what to price them at. Beckett isnt reliable and some of the cards dont come up on ebay often. So how do I get a price for them?

I may list some with no price and ask for offers figuring that player collectors would have a better idea what to pay for them than I would. I know this is the opposite of what I put above but there have been times when looking at others items I decided that they have most of their cards overpriced and the unpriced couple they have that I am interested in would then also be overpriced so I didnt ask about the card.
