Just looking for a few tips when scanning slabbed cards and cards in one-touches. Seems that every time I try, the light gets refracted weird so the image comes out a little blurry. I've experimented quite a bit with DPI and sharpening, but I think it might have something to do with my nearly 10-year old scanner (Canon Canoscan LIDE 30). Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I don't think there is anyway to scan a card in a slab or in one touch holder since the thickness of them prevents the scanner from scanning the card properly. Try taking a webcam picture and it should come out better or if all else fails a digital camera picture. Make sure to not move the cards though since that makes the picture blurry..

Yeah with my slabbed/one-touch cards I've found it's much easier to just grab the Rebel XSi and snap a couple that way. Compare:

not so bad..try pressing the top of the scanner against the card and the resolution should be a little better

scanners do no justice....unfortunately showing off cards, the true beauty of some pieces just can't be seen unless the card is in hand....but for trading and selling purposes...typically the scans won't matter too much....just an idea of what the card looks like

It really depends on the quality of the scanner, and if you have the ability to edit it to remove scratches, adjust colors and what not. Here is one a good example of what I think is one of my better scans.

After being frustrated by blurry scans, I finally just spent a nice chunk of change on a great scanner. But it doesn't stop there, I spend about 5 minutes on each adjusting the lighting, shading, colors, sharpness, etc. to try to get it as good as possible.

^ that does look mighty impressive. but then again you can edit pictures with photoshop as well....

My scanner is not very very good, so I always edit picture on Photoshop. I did a 'SCRIPT' so on all my scan, I only need to apply the script and all the effects are going on automatically. If you guys need help with photoshop, I'm using this program since 2 years so I should be able to answer your question!

By the way, scanners that are in printers aren't realy good. These kind of scanners are almost only for little thing, pictures, small magazines, etc.
