Exactly. He may be a douchebag, but he's a douchebag that's very good at his job.

But at what cost? Taking a stupid penalty that will cost at least one game? Potentially poisoning a locker room with his presence? Exposing him and his act to younger players?

I agree with you, however, I still would not be surprised to see some team take that risk.

I don't disagree with anything above, but the fact remains that there are lots of teams that could use what he brings to the table on the ice. Maybe not the extra crap that comes with it, but he's managed to stick around this long. There's no reason to think that somebody else won't be willing to overlook the asshattery that comes with signing him. The Leafs have a history of signing total douchebags to contracts (see: Darcy Tucker, Shayne Corson), maybe Avery has just enough "pugnacity, testosterone, truculence and belligerence" for Burke's liking. Not saying that it's what the Leafs need, or that it's what rational and sane Leafs fans want, but with the Leafs, you never know what Burke is gonna do next....he's nothing, if not bullheaded and stubborn.

I would rather he stayed in the east if you ask me. He was never a big tool with the Wings but you could see the attitude before he got traded. It's a shame as the guy is a decent roll player. His mouth just seems to get in the way of his career!

Avery is a clown and is not good for the game in any way. He is an embarrassment to the NHL and to Canada. I hope no one picks him up and that we see him on Surreal Life trapped under an non-showered Rosie O'Donnell after a fitness competition.

i hope the nucks get him.. not like we're gonna win with boo-ongo in net anyways

Really Jonny? You were within 60 minutes of it... TWICE. It wasn't all Luongo's fault, in spite of the fact that he's your personal whipping boy.

The Canucks are a better team this year than last... why take on the sideshow that is a fashion loving 4th liner at his peak potential?

Leave the bad behaviour to the NFL guys in Orange and Black.

He very rarely takes stupid penalties, and for every one he costs his team, he will draw at least 10-15. And I am highly under-exaggerating that #.

His production has tailed off because the Rangers gave him an identity, and he has not been a problem to this team. He still draws multiple penalties on a nightly basis, but when the team has a PP% of 12% those penalties don't seem to matter.........

I would like to see him stay, but the fight was between Avery or Christensen, and right now EC has more value on the team.

The Canucks are a better team this year than last....

I certainly don't know about that.

- Lost Ehrhoff
- Mayson Raymond likely out for the better part of the year
- Sturm and Torres just offset
- Kesler already banged up.

They are still very, very good and will easily win their division but I'm not sure I can say they are better than last year. Either way, that's not a bad thing. The Rays lost Carlos Pena, Carl Crawford, Matt Garza, Rafael Soriano, etc and they were better this year than last. Anything can happen.

C'mon...who would even want the Rangers' slopp...oh wait...

Have fun with Redden in Hartford. Only people upset about this happening are probably the HBO guys hoping he'd be on 24/7.

Exactly what first popped into my head. His personality had to be a huge bonus for HBO considering (minus torts) the rangers seem to be pretty personality-less.

The Raymond absence, imo, hurts more than all the others. That team went SOUTH in the Finals when he went down.

I think the young'uns will make their presence felt this year.
