Verified Trader,
Hope everyone's enjoying a beautiful Canada Day long weekend - my place is about to get swarmed by my friends and their hyperactive kids, so before I medicate myself heavily with alcohol I'm going to enjoy the peace and quiet in the morning and do my little June show n tell.
Hardly any pickups this month, and unlike other months where I've been adding to my other set collections, June was almost all Sedins. Since I picked up so few cards a few of my shows are going to tie in to related cards already in the ol' PC.
First up, big shout out to creasecollector who scooped these and sent them as a gift for me and little Henrik to enjoy! Thanks Aaron! I'm not exactly sure on the details of this set, but gotta say they made much nicer looking cards than the UD World Cup of Hockey set.
I was pretty harsh in my criticism of UD's "we're saving the hobby by instilling healthy collecting habits" spin job when they pitched the bounty program - but given the prices some of the level 3 rookies commanded, clearly there was some real demand to put together the set. Glad my guy isn't one of the hot rookies and my unscratched silver and gold x/50 came relatively cheap.
I had fun buying a box of UD 2 on ePack and wheeling and dealing to acquire the 10 Hank base needed for the silver, and then 100 more base to get my gold to complete my UD rainbow for the year.
Oddly I've only found one Henrik plate from all of this year's products, whereas this Danny from MVP 16-17 is my 10th Danny plate for the year (out of a total of 20 made across 5 products).
Base card 1/1 parallels aren't as exciting as they once were, but I still enjoy picking up the Cup with their nice touch of the black cardboard on the sides of the cards.
I don't hoard too many Sedin cards, 13-14 Prime is my main hoard - Panini only had Danny jerseys to use up apparently. I'm up to 28 out of 52 cheset logo pieces, 12 out of 27 shoulder patches, and with these two number swatches I'm up to 21 out of 49. Sadly with all those number pieces I still don't think I have a matching set to recreate one full sleeve number set.
OPC Platinum is always a tough rainbow to complete - every year then Henrik x/25 for whatever reason takes me a long time to find. Glad to have found both twins, what do they call it, ah yes, the Emerald Surge x/10 - and even the Hank 1/1 Golden Treasure as well!
From 16-17 SPGU, already had a copy, but couldn't resist upgrading when the nicer Hank came along, pairs up really nice with his brother I already had!
Couldn't believe my eyes when a couple of ebay 1/1's popped up recently - I was pretty big into serial numbers way back when these cards first came out in 1998-99, and landed a couple nice upgrades both from the same seller.
From 1998-99 SPx, the Sedin's first autographed cards - really excited to add the base 1/1999, to go along with the jersey numbered Radiance 22/100 parallel, and the Spectrum 1/1 I already had!
Just realized I didn't scan the backs of these, so you'll have to trust me on the serial numbering. I've been mildly obsessed with getting nice serial numbered versions of these cards for some time - while their RC's were a year before, those 97-98 BD weren't serial numbered, so I've had a lot of fun chasing their second year BD cards instead. Only the Danny quad is new... but here are my complete rainbows. For Danny, I have the unnumbered base, the double diamond is 2/2000 (his draft position 2nd overall), the triple is 1/1000, and the quad is 1/100. For Hank, I have the unnumbered base, the double is 20/2000 (his Swedish jersey number as pictured on the card), the triple is 3/1000 (his draft position, 3rd overall), and the quad is 4/100 (hmm... 4 for the approx number of tears I shed when the 'nucks lost in the 2011 finals?).
I already had the gorgeous whale teeth Danny swatch, a big thanks to Dr. Price who reached out to me to let me know he'd made a Hank with the fin of the whale, I was more than happy to complete the pair!
Nearing the end of the show - one of my favourite sets was Superlative v3. I know the designs of ITG cards weren't everyone's cup of tea, but I think this set overall featured some of the nicest designs they put out.
There were a total of 16 Sedin 1/1 cards in Superlative, until now I'd only seen 15 of them, really excited to have landed the final one to surface - the Daniel Jumbo Patch gold. Of the 16 total cards, I managed to pick up 14 of them... I'm missing the jersey version of the quad patch which sadly I missed out on ebay because it was listed without player names, and also missing the Franchise Heroes quad but not to sad about that one as it has a good home in meatmancgy's Richard Brodeur collection.
Last but not least, my one big non-Sedin pickup for the month came courtesy of our own M35Richter, a huge thank you for our smooth transaction, really excited to be up to 31 cards now (just past the half way mark) in the Lord Stanley's Mug game-used stick subset (all 1/1's)!
