Selling a redemption and PayPal coverage

Never thought about this before:

Have a Dominion Rookie Ensigns Dual Shield Auto that is a redemption and getting ready to list on eBay. Is there any way to be paid through PayPal, send just the redemption code and still have protection on my end? Or would you have to send the actual redemption card so there was something to sign for for proof of receipt?

I wouldn't send a redemption code unless it was paid by gift. I would think that the only protection you would get would be by sending the actual card.

i wont cheap out on shipping with a card like this, just ship it with express post like a regular card

so at least you have your end cover

I echo the above statements and have treated redemption cards as any normal card.

I have scratched the code and emailed the buyer prior to shipping on occasion so they could get it in the system a couple of days earlier - but I have still followed through with the shipment as a CYA measure.

If - and it's a big if - you are dealing with someone you know and trust, the shortcut is fine. Otherwise, CYA rules apply.

I too would just have the redemption mailed to you unscratched for your own protection. I'm always worried the person will scratch it, redeem it, and mail it to me. I'm sure that wouldn't happen in most cases, but I'm aways paranoid.

If you send the redemption code and he files a claim down the road in a scam attempt, just mail him the physical card with tracking and/or insurance and upload it to Paypal. Once it arrives the claim will be dropped.

I would be hesitant to send the code ahead of time. Even if you send the card after the fact, they could claim item not as described because it was scratched. I would just send the card unscratched unless it is someone that you really trust.

Sending both would be a good idea. I agree the paranoia isn't healthy, but welcome to 2012.
