I didnt see this posted anywhere, but it goes like this:

So now BOTH sens players that most of us agreed were untradeable have been let go for practically nothing....

Awesome pickup by the Bruins, not the smartest move made in ottawa. People value picks way too much these days. They gave up 2 role model players in less than a week that would be perfect for a rebuilding team.

Whats the saying? Dont blame the builder blame the architect? :|

I agree. Fisher and Kelly would perfectly fit into the rebuilding process of the Sens. Im curious how will the roster look like next season. Dont think they can build it on the draft picks. So they will need to overpay some free agents in the offseason.

I can't say as though I agree.

Both players have underperformed this year and are considerably overpaid. If it were a popularity contest then they would win hands down. Both are character guys and have been huge for the Sens in past years.

The problem is the team needs to get younger and rely on guys like Spezza and Alfie for mentorship. The Sens are now in full rebuilding mode and need to make some tough decisions. Other teams are looking for studs right now and to be honest we just don't have that many of them so it doesn't really surprise me that they traded Fisher and Kelly. I don't profess to be an armchair GM but this part of Murrays job can't be easy.

These players brought back DP plus a lot of salary cap space. The Sens can build with their DP plus they can go out and sign some different FA players. Fans need to remember that trades are not always abought equal talent at the same time, there is a lot more to consider especially with the NHL salary cap.

Although I was sad to see both go, I like the trades. We get a first rounder for Fisher, a 30 year old (with a 40 year old's body) who is way overpaid. In Kelly we give up a 15 goal guy who is a great defensive forward. I'm hoping Zach Smith can become that guy. We get a 2nd rounder in return that perhaps Murray can package up with other late picks to acquire another top 10? Who knows? However, he was told to shed salary and that's EXACTLY what he's doing. We now have cap space and draft picks galore. Is that a bad thing? I don't think so
