With the young guns in Series 2 this year, is buying some boxes worth it?

Im thinking of trying to get my hands on a few boxes atleast if not a case because you have the rest of this years rookies in Young Guns plus they usualy have rookie threads and to add ontop of that OPC and MVP rookies ontop of that. Then you have the SSP Canvas Cards ontop of that.

Based on the number of people asking for cases now (well after pre-order), I think the obvious answer is people are thinking it will be a good product.

It has been like that for 25 + years.
Spending thousands of dollars on something that's completely worthless like the early 90's made people quit and never come back to the hobby.
Can you think of a worse hobby to invest in for the average person?
Explains why the hobby is so small now.
Yeah I know, everyone should be in it for the love of the "game". Too bad money trumps everything.
Put $5000 in and 25 years later you can't get $25 for it. It makes people feel like ****. Hobby will be so close to dead once the new generations grow up and we did off.
All there is now is flippers/investors/speculators/scammers left. With a few true collectors left. Thus why we have lower and lower # cards because wants to buy any of this **** unless they are flipping as fast as they can.

I think most people are a combination of value seekers and collectors. There's really nothing wrong with that IMO.
This isn't a cheap hobby, and there are so many different products out there. It makes sense to look for something that is going to maintain value. Also, in the average box, a collector is not going to want every card in there. It makes sense to buy a product that will partially fund its own purchase.

Seems like you're still stuck in the early '90s and you need a time warp to the present. And from what you've said you've also had a very negative experience from the hobby. The hobby has had its ups and downs over the years, but nothing like the gong-show of the early '90s has been repeated. There are a lot of strengths to the hobby and people collect for different reasons. As long as there are sports, I believe there will always be some fans who will collect for the love of whatever sport or sports they follow. Others would combine this with a desire to buy certain cards for investment. And others collect certain players, certain sets, and so on. I don't believe the hobby will be dead, but it will continue to evolve as it has since card production and collecting began.

Getting back to the original topic, I think Series 2 will be worth it. It's relatively cheap, and it's full of a variety of cards for different people to chase.
