Ok well I am 99% done with my ud2 jersey set (missing lemieux and alfredsson), alfredsson is an easy pickup but it is looking like i wont get a lemieux. what do you all suggest. Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

I have placed a mental block on myself which is making it tough for me to pay the insane prices lemieux is going for. I dont collect lemieux, its an unnumbered jersey, and i have been told there is /100 lemieux out there yet they sell in the 190+ range (i believe someone said they saw one at the expo with a $500 tag on it).

I see. We'll if I were you and I didn't want to spend the money on the Lemieux then I would break up the set. Sell the bigger names and harder to find ones individually and get rid of the scrubs in lots. I wouldn't be able to live with the set missing one card.

I've found with SPs its all about timing. I think if you were to put your set on hold for awhile until things calm down a bit or until the other set collectors have finished or given up, then you'll be able to find one for a price more in your range.

I agree with X-Head. When I have those last one or two to finish off, it often pays to wait. There will be other collectors in your situation who will give up, or collectors getting out of the hobby, selling off their "almost-completed" sets in pieces. Often, as newer sets come out, those "older" sets don't have the same lustre in the hobby that they once had.

IMO, it seems that you've worked hard to achieve this project so far. Why give up when the end is in sight?

There were NO Lemieux's at the Expo, I searched up and down all three days. I don't think you should give up on the set, there are a few Lemieux's on the bay right now. I had 1 and sold it only because I have another one incomming, hit a $34.99 buy it now a few weeks back Still hasn't shown up though Be patient and you'll find a decent priced one come around, heck I paid $80 for both of mine. The price will come down, don't worry. The set will be a great acomplishment. Jeez if I knew you needed the Alfie I could have sent one over but I just sold it.

I'd say to keep the set and take a break from it...you never know the circumstances other collectors may find themselves in.
A cheap steal may be just around the corner. The '07 sets could start to come out and a RABID Lemieux collector may be willing to part with his (or one of many ) Lemieux 06 SER 2 GU to try to raise funds for the latest, greatest thing.
Put the 131pieces aside and set up a specific fav search on eBay with email notification. It'll come your way, bro.

Vinny, I didn't participate in the poll because my suggestion is put the set aside for a while and I am pretty sure that you will be able to pick one of those Lemieux Jersey's up down the road for much less then they are selling for today. Or if you need the cash I have a few ideas for you. Usually it's better to break up sets and sell them off 1 by 1, but IMO this is an exception. Most of the commons might not even get bids now. One solution is to sell off all the stars and SP's as singles and sell the rest off in a lot of 80 or 100 or several lots of 10 or 20. Team sets maybe? I dunno, lots of possibilities I guess.
