Think that title is pretty cliche by now, but appropriate :)

One Ranford card released in the most recent Leaf Superlative release.... and I was able to land it. Winning Fantasy Football came at a nice time!

My first Shield:

There has been 1 ITG Shield, and 1 UD Shield (dual, with Ray Bourque) released in the past. By my count ITG / Leaf chopped at least 2 Ranford jerseys (I suspect 3) and UD has used at least 2, I suspect 3. Maybe another card to chase down the road, but really happy to have landed this one.

Not to hijack the post (love the Ranford shield) but I've never seen the silver logo with the NHL going from top left to bottom right (or maybe I have but just never noticed). I always thought that when the league switched to the silver logo that the NHL went from bottom left to top right.

Do you have any info on that Gabby shield?



EDIT: In doing a quick eBay search, I see a few more (not many) from players in that mid-2000 time (Sakic, Bure, Hull, Demitra) and so I wonder if there was a brief time in that initial transition from 04/05 to 05/06 where it was kept the same direction as the orange?

Thanks guys! Yeah, it's a beauty. That style of Shield I always liked. It's a first for my collection, so really really happy I was able to add it.

Yeah. I would certainly be into going after one of the others that was made... but I know the prior ITG Shield (04-05 UM) was locked into another Ranford collection, and the dual with Bourque - I was offered it back when it was pulled, at a price that would gave allowed me to buy an entire jersey (so I said no thanks).

This is most likely a 1 & done.... though I wonder where the Shield from the Detroit jersey ITG chopped ended up.

The last couple of years I have really scaled back the amount of money I'm willing to put into this hobby (have way more important places to put that money now) but I was okay with shelling out the money required for a card like this.... and winning a whack of dough that week certainly made the decision easier.

If I am not mistaken the shield changed to silver for the 1999-2000 season and stayed that color and orientation until the lockout ended for 2005-06. The logo was then changed to the current orientation and a thicker silver outer line around the logo. Those shields were actually sewn OVER the old shields onto the teams game jerseys that had already been prepped and then held onto once the 2004-05 season was cancelled.

The shield had some other little nuances once Reebok went with it's final style jerseys the last few seasons, and now you have the very flashy current Adidas incarnation of the logo which looks like a shiny, plastic piece. (it is)
