Post the ebay item if you really want more input but it seems to me that you are fishing for people to agree with you based on a relatively small amount of information.

You are claiming to know that he will not spend $15 on shipping and that he is ripping you off with no evidence of that fact - in the end, if you don't like the auction, seller, terms, etc...don't buy the card. Or, with the way ebay is structured currently you could be like one of the hoards of d-bags on the site and buy the card, file a chargeback, neg the seller and keep the card for free. I would personally just go with, don't buy it and move on.

I posted earlier in the thread, but you can report people with excessive shipping costs to eBay.

And there are certain auction categories where shipping costs cannot exceed a specific maximum set by eBay. Hockey cards, unfortunately, are not one of them.

i too sell cards at times ,i agree that there are alot of scammers out there,yes if the card is worth say 50-60 bucks it would be wise to get it by registered mail.but not say(10-20)card and the seller doesn,t give you an option on how you would like it shipped.
right now the buyer does have the upper hand over the seller,the whole point of ebay cracking down on over charging was to make it more honest to the buyer(or was it that paypal was losing money) i tried emailing ebay but no reply,has any one ever heard of ebay applying it to some one, id like to know

the buyer has no upper hand over the seller. there's no rule stating what shipping method the seller has to ship the card to you with. the only thing in writing is that the seller must send with delivery confirmation (under $200 or $250 -forget which) or signature confirmation (over $200 or $250 -forget which) in order to avoid a paypal chargeback.

the seller has every right to protect himself. if you as a bidder do not agree to his terms, which are within ebay/paypal parameters, then don't bid on his item. excessive shipping charges only apply when the cost can't be justified. for registered shipping, the seller's numbers add up.

If the shipping is between Canada and the U.S. or vice-versa, insured tracking for 15.00 is justifiable since the costs for that are around that (ie.: registered mail, XpressPost, Priority Mail). Do calculations on CanadaPost or USPS to verify if you think there's a possible problem.

Note: the seller does at least has to state this up front in some manner.

Due to current eBay policies, sellers end up having to do this to avoid any chargebacks in the instance of apparent non-receipt. It is now common enough to see insurance requirements on combined totals of 50, 60, or 75 nowadays.

If the 15.00 shipping is being sent via regular mail, ask the shipper how they are packing it (weighted parcel)? Check to see if there are grounds for possible excessive shipping charges (which can be claimed if the seller did fail to state this in their auction).

Just ask the seller for details on how the card will be packaged and which postal service they will be using. If you don't like the answer, don't bid.

I love when buyers complain about high shipping charges on a $100 item. So, let me ask you this: if you, as a buyer were responsible for whether or not the item gets to you, would you still be happy with regular shipping without tracking, etc? Sellers are in a no-win situation. Either they take the chance to get a chargeback or they get slammed for overcharging on shipping. This is the buyer mentality that eBay has created
