Hi all,

I have been out of the hobby for a few years and just getting back recently. I’m trying to sell some cards on eBay and just wondering how much I should charge for shipping cards from Canada to the States? I heard that we can no longer send it thru regular mail?

Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I am still sending to the states as oversized lettermail using a bubble mailer. Never had one come back to me yet. So I charge $4 as it's $3 something in postage. Otherwise, small packet without tracking is usually $8 - $10 for me in postage depending on where it is going.

To avoid the risk of them being sent back the cards should be sent as small packet air which is $9cdn after tax for anything under 100g I believe. If you are mailing multiple cards or slabs you will likely want to charge a bit more.

I personally charge $9 on eBay, so after they take a % of that I actually lose money on shipping to the USA.

Judging by the amount of complaints I see in various forums, you've been lucky.

I never had a single one come back sending regular mail in a bubble mailer up to the end of 2021. Since the beginning of 2022 I have had quite a few come back so I just stopped shipping to the US as it's now $9-10. Unless it's tracked of course than nothing has changed

Shipping to the USA

Hi all,

long time since I've sold some stuff. I'm sure I could go to the post office to get an answer - but why not ask people who already do this daily!

What's the story with shipping bubble envelopes to the USA from Canada?

Has the rate gone up? Do we have to fill out those forms?

Is there a best route for this?

Thanks,

Unfortunately all packages going to USA are now 'Parcels' and will have to be shipped as such. They are getting rid of the customs forms and going all electronic. I was told just a couple weeks ago that they still have customs forms but it may take longer as everything is switching to electronic.

I have been getting away with shipping 1 thick card, as thick as Stature this year, to USA and Czech Republic by throwing stamps on them with no issues yet. But I use small manila envelopes and wrap the card in thin corrugated material that you would find wrapped around say... a new TV when in the box. So you could get away sending 1-4 thin cards this way. Otherwise it's a good $12+

However, if you are in Markham you should look into Chitchats.com. You can save a ton on shipping to USA or Internationally by going through them but you have to drop it off at a ChitChats location. Most are located in the GTA so I unfortunately have yet to use this method.

There’s a similar service in Alberta. DYK Mail. I think they have a couple locations in Edmonton. You have to drop at their location. They then truck the packages to Montana and mail from there. Might be worth the effort if you’re doing lots of cross border shipping.

Still shipping about 10 bubble mailers to the states per week as oversized lettermail. Keep expecting them to come back....but they haven't so far.

I've had a couple come back so I switched to different methods a couple months ago. However, I have done this a couple times where I write in marker on the package 'Do Not Bend. Contains Photos.' I believe there are actual stickers out there that says as such so it would look much more professional.

As for ChitChats, you can have CanPar pick up the package(s) for you and they deliver it to a ChitChats location but I do not know how much that service costs. If I ever send multiple packages to USA at once I will try this method so I can report back to you all.

Someone at the post office told me to do this also with the "do not bend contains photos" and it didn't come back to me. Weird "work around" potentially?

I made a test last month, on a low-end deal. The card was in taped sleeve, between 2 thin cardboards in a PWE and a small stamp (I think it was 1,30CAD), dropped in a Canada Post red box, and it went fine to its destination in USA.

I rarely sell anything, but when I do it's of a high dollar amount so I ship with tracking and fill out the custom form online and then go to the PO and they take care of everything in a matter of minutes. It does cost upward of $20 to send a single parcel though.
