Hello,

I won a lot on the eBay.com a while back. I bought it because there was a $2 Ryan Kesler jersey card in there and I figured I'd flip the rest. Most of it was $1-2-5 stuff, a few nice ones though. I had it shipped to the US PO box. Picked it up today. It came shipped in this envelope:

Inside the envelope were these:

Nothing else, no packing material, nothing. One of the cases wasn't full, so the cards shuffled up and down in transit, but they seem to be ok........

The other case was a snap-tite, and somewhere along the way the hinges broke and of course that side wasn't taped down...

So the cards looked like this in the envelope............

Except not nearly as neat. The nicer cards (again, of course) were trashed.......

Kruger has lower and upper right-corner dings

Kane has lower right and upper left BENDS (not creased tho, weird)

Modano is chewed in the lower right corner

Kesler is passable, I'm keeping it, what the heck

Karlsson is GOUGED upper left and dinged just about everywhere else

Lindros is chewed lower left and there are indentations from the balls of the case hinges

Iginla!!!! Hard-signed /25!!!! Lower-right ding, plus indentations from the balls

Greening dinged

Couture DESTROYED

Plus 5 more that aren't worth talking about

So if I file a claim I have to return the stuff via registered mail. From here to Michigan is like $25, leaving me with a "refund" of $90..........do I keep the stuff and try to make $90 with the remaining 53 cards? Do I file a claim?? Do I drive to West Bloomfield MI and lose my marbles on my new best friend???

Poop.

I've had several of these over the years. Everytime I almost cry since it's so disrespectful of collectors.

If this was me I would send the seller a furious mail and claim my money back.

I agree with all statements, and please let us know of the seller's name so that we can put him on the blocked list of our bidders/sellers.

Well, he messaged me back........

"I have been selling cards on ebay for a long time and this is how I package the cards. Look at my feedback I have never had issues. Having said this, feel free to send every card back and I will give you a full refund."

I looked at his feedback, he's sold a few lots and he's received positives upon positives, which to me is immaterial because this particular package went south.

The problem for me now is the loss of the $$$ for the return postage, tracked shipping from Canada isn't cheap and I don't feel I should have to lose out even a penny for something that wasn't my fault............so I guess I'll file a claim and see what happens.

To ship plenty of autographed & memorabilia cards in a plastic case just show how little the seller cares about the cards...absolutely brutal and disgusting!

Especially when those hinged cases tends to having rounder corners!
Why not use plastic cases with diamond corner but they're quite rare (or?), but they may not help that much more...?

While I do agree that the seller should have taken better care in shipping, the thing that caught my eye about this thread the most was the title.

Now, I'll probably get bashed for this but "hatred" ... they're hockey cards ... this is a hobby ... you have hatred for someone because of this ... wow, just wow.

You are absolutely right! And after I'd pounded the story out on the keyboard I did calm down a lot. The PO box is a 27 mile drive from my house, plus a 30-minute border line-up, I'd had a lot of time to let things come to a boil by the time I got home.

I don't hate the seller, the seller offered me a full refund if I returned the cards, the seller is most probably a decent guy. I DO hate his carelessness though. If a mod wants to change "hatred" to "disappointment, that's fine by me.

Plus I'm a big drama queen.

On the other hand, yes they're hockey cards and yes this is a hobby. But we collect hockey cards and we put a great deal of emphasis on condition, we get them graded, we scream blue murder when something out of a pack is dinged up and we have to return it to UD or Panini. Here there is an HI standard for shipping, at SCF there are guidlines, I'm sure the same goes for other trade forums. You open up a package that looks like what I got and you're in the middle of nowhere without any access to recourse and see what emotions go through your head, that's what I say. ;)

I love when people are clearly wrong they always insist on reassuring themselves as upstanding individuals. Not necessary. It'd just piss me off further. He's clearly wrong. Period.

At the end of the day he's offering a full refund. The negative is your prerogative. Personally myself I'd forget leaving a negative.

Late to the party here. Sorry to hear of the unfortunate circumstance. I have felt similar pain in the past.

I would recommend open, honest and respectful dialogue with the seller. See if there is some sort of middle ground or compromise that the two of you can come to. Partial refund, returning some of the cards, who knows. Trying to be calm and understanding will hopefully see that effort reciprocated.

Only if there is no other option and the seller becomes impossible to work with....then hit him with a negative a zero star rating.

Hopefully it will work out for you.

Claim and then if the seller is difficult to work with, negative if you so choose.

Claim and if the seller works with you and resolves the issue, positive.

I agree with this comment. Also you never know the seller may have another card that you really want so kill him with kindness and see what that leads too. Good luck!

People make mistakes. We live in a world where the default behavior is the movement from order to chaos. Things will go wrong, and sometimes it will affect you. It irks me when someone's first instinct is always "he/she is trying to rip me off!!"* Contact the seller, file the claim if you have to, get your money back, turn the page. In the end you might be out a few bucks. Be happy. Keep in mind that you AND the seller are both out if the cards are damaged. No need to make their life more miserable.

*Speaking in general terms, of course, not specifically about this situation. But the idea is the same.

And in reference to the "kill them with kindness" post. It's totally true. I sell a ton of stuff and have had unsatisfied customers, and if they're sincere and the situation seems believable I'm very apt to just process the refund and walk away from the cards. This seller may too, not sure what good the damaged cards will be to get them back.

Alllll right then. I asked to return the damaged cards for a partial refund, he countered with the full refund for returning everything. I opened a dispute (not a claim) and he hasn't replied. So that's where we're at.......

Here's the WHOLE thing. It cost me $110 US............

What I'm keeping:

SV maybe $20? Less? More? The Kesler is already in a binder and entered in my inventory too :/

The junked cards:

SV.........$35-40-50? Iggy and Karlsson and Couture being most of that?

Which leaves me with this.........

SV who the heck knows, really? It's not a bad lot, even minus the destroyed cards.

You're all right in your own way. I'm just gonna return the damaged cards to him, what he does after that is up to him and Karma. Hopefully at least he's learned what NOT to do next time someone wins a lot from him.........
