got 2 fleurys today. that explains the "small" part of the title. but these 2 cards were both "BIG" additions to the fleury pc.
first is a bap memorabilia redeemed rookie. hand numbered 52/100
and second, itg crosby series fleury/crosby dual patch /15
however, i have been doing some serious thinking lately, and i may end up selling part of my fleury pc. i have been thinking this over ever since itg ultimate memorabilia was released. that product made me spend over $1000 in one month on fleurys. and ever since then, i have been spending several hundred a month, and i dont know if i can continue to do that. i highly doubt that i will ever reach 100% completion on fleury, especially with all those stupid parallels coming out.
now, if i do decide to part with some of my fleurys, i will still keep several of the high end cards (the endorsed equipment, the octograph, + a several other favorites). but recently, a very close friend of my cousin, and a soccer teammate of mine all throughout highschool (4 years), was seriously injured in an accident at the beach. he was in the ocean, and was diving in the waves and ended up breaking his neck. i dont know the whole story and exactly what happened, but he ended up breaking a vertebrae in his neck. he now has no feeling from his neck down. he has been going through constant surgery for the past week, and is now gaining slight feeling in his arms, but still, he is not doing too well. that accident really got me thinking. he is only 21 years old, and only one of his parents work, so the family doesnt have much money. and the medical bills for them are going through the roof now. part of the reason for me deciding to possibly part with some of my fleurys is to help fund his family to get them through this tough time. there is also a spaghetti dinner fundraiser this weekend to help raise some money, but it is still not enough. i even donated a lemieux autographed 8x10 and a crosby autographed 8x10 from my personal collection to be auctioned off at the fundraiser.
i realized that cards are not that important, and they are just a hobby. you never know what may happen to you or a loved one. now, i do still love collecting, and i will continue to purchase some of the fleurys that i really like, but no longer will i be going after every fleury i see.
sorry for the long read, i just felt that it was important to post here. but please, pray for my buddy. having such a terrible accident at the age of 21 is just horrible. he was in his 3rd year of college and had his future all set out for him, and now this accident ruins everything he had worked so hard for. and also, make sure you think twice about something you do that could result in injury. who would have thought that you can break you neck by swimming in the ocean?
