Smartest Pick up?

Hi all,

I was looking at some stats and noticed that since being picked up by the San Jose Sharks, Brian Boucher has gone 5-1 with 3 shutouts, including the fact that he's yet to give up a goal this season. With Nabby obviously burned out from overwork last year in the playoffs, it would seem that this was a very smart pick up by the Sharks. Whaddya'll think? Could his be the year SJ finally puts it all together?

The also added some key skill to the blueline in Boyle and veteran leadership in Blake. I think the Sharks did a great job last season, but with their additions, they are a serious threat to the cup.
 
i wonder if its the goalies or the system they're playing in. nabby never really shined the way he did until last year and (at this point) it doesn't seem to be holding up. now boucher is doing the same.
 
While I think that Boucher is certainly helping the sharks out I think the additions of Naslund, Zherdev and even Redden (while he isn't scoring too much) have helped that team out a great deal as well.

That would be a miracle, considering they play for the Rangers. LOL
 
I was going to say Zherdev. The guy just needed a change of scenery. He's playing with enthusiasm, energy and passion now. And he's a different player for it.

I was just throwing them in the mix as far as smartest pickup as your title states - however, to address the question of whether this could be the year of the Shark or not, it would be difficult to finally say that it is. It seems that this team has been billed as the next big thing coming out of the Western Conference for the last 5-6 years and never lives up to the billing...always very strong, decent regular season, fizzle in the playoffs.

Marleau is playing well though and it seems that they have some better players in their supporting roles now however I don't see them doing a lot once the playoffs hit - I am sure they will make it but I don't see them being a real contender.

Sorry....I misunderstood your reference. I thought you meant Zherdev/Nazzy/Redden playing for the Sharks....:eek:

I see where you're coming from based on past performance, but I'm curious if the reason they've fizzled has been goalie burnout. If Boucher can get in 20-25 games, perhaps Nabby would be a little more up to the task come playoff time?
 
How in the blue hell did you, of all people, not mention Alex Tanguay? It's a wonder what the guy can do when he's not playing to his weakness like he was in Calgary...
 
Naslund has 11 pts so far this year.......for him to get 11 pts last year took......25 or so games?:(

I'm glad he's regained his scoring touch in NY, as well to see what Zherdev can really do now that he's playing to potential. The game was on CBC HNIC last night, even though the Rags got blown outta the water, the way Naslund was playing, reminded me of his glory days when he was part of the West Coast Express. Zherdev had a few dangles and dekes that blew me away as well.

As far as the Sharks winning the Cup this year....it all depends on if Thornton can carry them to it. He's got a great supporting cast, but ultimately the weight will fall on his shoulders. So far this season, he hasn't impressed many...

LOL...by smartest pick up, I meant for the Sharks, not for the entire league.

It's a given that by seasons end, Tanguay will be revered as a god in Montreal, and all the naysayers that laughed at me and kicked sand in my face for being a fan shall be smote.....:dance::D
 
Wanna do a cross-country tour in the Tallmobile to get 'em all in one big marathon of smite? I think I have Trev or Rod's wallet around here somewhere. Are moths a bad sign?

And yeah I know you were talking about the Sharks, it was just too obvious a jab not to take :p
