So, what are the Caps going to do?

Caps started the 48-game 94/95 season 3-10-5, and turned it around to make the playoffs as the 6th seed. If you blow your team up after 11 games, you shouldn't be making decisions in hockey. Caps have enough talent to turn it around, and if they don't, well, pick up a good prospect at the draft, assess your team in the offseason, and come back in September. I'll take one bad year over multiple rebuilding years, that in the end, don't guarantee you any better showing years down the road.

I know I'll get blasted for saying this but it's time to trade Ovy.

I said this earlier this year, and agree wholeheartedly. The caps tried to same 'tank n bank' strategy the Oil and Pens seem to be successful with, but the players they were rewarded with just simply dont seem to cut it. Aside from Ovy Backstrom and Varlamov

Finley, Pokuluk, Fehr, Eminger, Schultz, B Gordon?

Even guys like Semin Green Carlson and Alzner could be considered a success by one person but a failure by another (right now) without batting an eye lash.

I say trade Ovy for some premium talent while the iron is still relatively hot. The last thing they need is to wait until no one wants him. I can guarantee a team like Detroit, Toronto, Isles, MTL would give their left you know what to pick him up....

I think the Caps problems are on defense and in goal, but that is just my opinion. I think they still have a very good team. Ovechkin needs to change his game. He uses a lot of energy trying to make the big hit, and by games end he is exhausted. The caps are very predictable as well on the power play, Ovechkin just sits at the top of the circle for a one time shot. Teams have learned to defend it.. Minor adjustments, the Caps will be fine..

since I moved to Maryland only games I get besides nbc sports games are Wash games... and wow they are playing bad

I think a few beer league teams can beat them the way they are playing at times

I think Oates needs to move Ovi back to reg position and remove the C as well....

if they need to shake things up I do not know what they should do but Ovi needs to carry the team

Someone tweeted this awhile back and I can't remember who so I can't give them credit for it but, essentially, the comment was that Ovechkin and his contract have become the most difficult to move in the NHL.

Assume for a second that the Caps were willing to move Ovechkin, who the heck is going to be able to give them anything of any value and would be willing to take on over a $9mil hit for this year plus three more for a guy who seems to have turned into a pretty solid 35 goal scorer?

Maybe he's been figured out, maybe he lacks work ethic but he certainly seems to be doing the exact same thing game in and game out and it clearly isn't working. There was a time when there was a solid debate to be had between him and Crosby and, at current, it would appear that Crosby's work ethic has shot him well into the lead.
