So...what else do you collect?

I've been collecting records(lp's) since I first started buying them in the mid 1970's, though I don't have have much time to listen to them as in the past, I still have a couple thousand in the basement.

Besides the hockey card PCs I collect the following to varying degrees-
Star Wars toys
foreign coins and bills
fossilized sharks teeth
The other half and I also collect blown glass christmas ornaments and magnets from places we visit.
 
Aside from cards, I have large collections of comics, books, and DVDs.

I also have a growing collection of original comic art commissions - Humberto Ramos, Neal Adams, Matteo Scalera, Adi Granov, Alex Maleev, Tim Sale, and the incomparable Bob Layton to name a few. Subjects are usually (pirate) Nightcrawler or Iron Fist, but there's a few Beta Ray Bill in there, as well as one-offs like Rocket Raccoon (Mike Del Mundo), Hip Flask (Tim Sale), Joker, and Micronauts. In tandem with the art is a growing collection of autographed comics, as well as autographed 8x10s with various nerdy celebs.

Then there's a small collection of statues. A smaller collection of WH40k miniatures I painted once on a time.


Really, I end up collecting just about anything to which I take a shine.
 
Most of what I collect now is dust...lol.

For cards, I collected all star net cards, all star GU jerseys, International GU jerseys, autos of players with 1000 pts, dmen with over 700 pts, goalies with over 350 wins . I didn't like how recently it got flooded so I lost interest in the newer stuff. Haven't found anything the interests me much lately.

I collected McFarlane NHL sports picks pretty heavily. Pretty much have almost every figure (regular and variants). Less than a handful of uber rare ones of the older ones. Lost interest with the collector's level stuff, so I don't have some of those. When hockey ended, it was a good time to wrap it up. It was actually the Spawn boards that brought me here. Some members told me about this site, and I had collected cards as a kid in the 80's, and thought it would fun to pick up again. Still like to build base sets to this day.

The Toy Biz Marvel legends was another that I was heavily into also. Again, have almost all the figures including variants. Again, when Toy Biz lost the license, it was a good time to end it.

I dabbled in other action figures, such as Spawn (and other McFarlane action figures), Spiderman Classics, Takara Binal Tech Transformers, some Simpsons, some star wars stuff. Some statues too.

I also was fortunate enough as a kid to meet a guy at a local comic convention that was moving to the UK and had a huge Amazing Spiderman collection to sell. He hadn't brought it with him, but I got his address and the next day we met up. I got over 200 issues, as early as issue number 10, at a bargain price. I started collecting adding whatever old issues that were missing, and got the newer ones. But it got expensive and when I was in late high school, thought I was too cool for comics, and quit a year before McFarlane started drawing ASM. I picked it back up years later, buying bulk lots to catch up. But then lost interest again. I'm glad that they ended the series, and I've been meaning to finish the entire ASM series. I think I stopped around issue 600. I'm missing Amazing Fantasy #15, and issues #1-9, and less than 5 others well into the 500's, if memory serves me correct.

Unfortunately, all are boxed up now. I'm amazed at what some of them go for now. I might start selling off my collection soon. Start with the "extras/trade bait" and stuff that interests me less now.

I'd love to actually read the whole Spider-Man series one day, right back to the very beginning, no way I can afford the actual original books though, probably scoop up the re-print volumes one day.

I should be collecting money so I can retire in 13 years.
 
My latest is Lego large scale cars and 1/64 diescast cars, specifically the VW Type 2 Transporter "Microbus"
 
Thanks for the looks and contributions to this thread so far. It's really neat to get a glimpse into everyone's collecting lives beyond cards and know that I wasn't/am not alone in some of my collecting fads and phases.

At one time or another, I have collected:

-Hockey cards
-Keychains
-Pins/badges
-Sesame Street die-cast toy cars (my mom really helped sell the whole Santa thing to me when Santa found the last one I needed and hadn't seen/couldn't find in stores anywhere)
-WWF stickers found in bags of potato chips
-Coins
-Hardy Boys books
-GI Joes
-Ninja Turtles
-Small Sesame Street stuffed figures
-Vinyl records

And I'm sure there are others I'm forgetting.

I also dabbled in autographs of deceased celebrities whose work I admired. I was a big John Ritter fan and was really bummed when he passed away, so I picked up a signed Hollywood trading card of his. And you can see the impact Jim Henson had on my life, so I had to get some of his as well - First Day Covers, signed record covers, things of that nature. Only problem is none of them are authenticated and I don't know of a place in Calgary that would do that without charging an arm and a leg. This is my favorite Henson-related Ebay pickup:

Compared to other examples, it looks good and would seem to check out, but I have no way to prove that for sure. At the bargain price I paid, I wouldn't lose any sleep if it turned out to be a fake, but it would still suck.

The seller I bought my last "The Muppets" production photo from said that as a collector, he has his hands in a lot of different collections in general, and that seems to be the way of it for myself and many others here. It's just in our nature and it's hard to stick to one thing. I don't know if it's the addictive "gotta have 'em all" mentality or what. Most of my collections were and would be infinite. Whereas I can never have all the keychains in the world, my Larry Murphy collecting goals seemed somewhat more reasonable until checklists started spiraling out of control. The fact he will continue to have new cards has made it daunting enough for me to finally wave the white flag and admit defeat.

I'm proud of my Muppet production photo collection, as you all should be of your collections. Pics are always welcome. I've tried to share my loot with Muppet fan sites but have never found the sense of community we have here at HI. Your support through every phase of my collecting is much appreciated. I hope that through inviting you to share your other hobbies and passions, I can give you other talking points besides cards and help strengthen the common ties that bind us all.

I have the collector gene like most of you as well, but I've had to force myself to pare down my collections or else I'll run out of money upgrading where I live every few years as I outgrow the place!

Other than my Osgood cards/jerseys/figures/bobbleheads/cereal etc, I also collect:
  • Edmonton Oilers OPC cards. I have every base OPC Oilers card from 1972-2016 so far. Keep meaning to scan them all in one of these days...
  • Edmonton Eskimos CFL cards/photos/programs/jerseys/books/games on DVD/autos/anything. Probably the biggest collection I own. My office is filled with Esks stuff from the Canadian Football League. Have items going back to the 1930s for them to present and I do a Esks History segment on a local podcast every week here.
  • Canadian Punk/New Wave/Power Pop 7" singles and EPs. Fell into this when I had grabbed about 20 different rare local punk/new wave singles when I worked at a record store, and ended up finding more in other shops. Usually bands could only afford to press 300-500 copies of their single back in the 80s-90s, so they tend to be fairly rare.
  • KISS vinyl, cards, CD & DVD bootlegs. My first real collection, and the one I've pared back the most. Have flipped posters, 2000s figures/cards and such for more vintage items, but even that can take a life of its own.

BUT I must say I ALL started with my Cub / Boy Scouts collector's badge in the later 1950s!
 
For hobbies I like playing guitar, photography, and graphic design. I have a few other collections aside from cards. My main one is probably the 1:400 scale model airplanes. Even managed to build a display cabinet for them. I also have a couple of 1:18 formula 1 models which can be seen in the photo. I sort of collect different coins from around the world and tickets from different events I've been to.

Think I will toss mine in here. Outside of hockey cards.
I have a small collection of replica Goalie Masks. (when I get some of them signed, I will be getting one of those cabinets or one like it posted above).
TTM autos, mainly hockey. Haven't sent any out in a long time. Most of my collection can be seen here
Oh, I have been collection weight for a while. But am working on getting rid of that collection.
 
I collect a ton of things. I don't go crazy with any of them except for one....beer.

Beer-My cellar has over 100 different beers. Mostly barrel aged stouts and sours.

Silver coins-I used to coin roll hunt and have been very successful. I also buy silver eagles from time to time.

Vinyl and cd's-Very big into music. All different kinds.

Ticket stubs- From sporting events and concerts I've been too. A lot.

Cast iron-Vintage griswald and wagner

NES video games-Trying to complete my Mega Man set!

Select hockey cards- Mainly enforcer sets but also early UD jersey's

I'm very picky on what I pick up. I only go for good deals. I'm too cheap to pay going price for a lot of this stuff. I visit thrift shops/garage sales often. Only exception is beer. There are a lot of special releases and I live in St. Louis with a lot of good breweries.
