Hey guys heres what I posted on the Beckett boards and i've posted the same post here for you guys to read:

Hey guys just got off the phone with the local store owner and he told me he got a fax and spoke with Grosnor distributors in Eastern Canada (Eastern Canada, Ontario areas biggest distributor) that the president of Grosnor got a phone call from Upper Deck and that SP AUTHENTIC Wave 2 has been cancelled. Now I am not starting rumours nor can this be stated as confimred yet but the facts are Grosnor sent the local store the fax and has said via Upper Deck that it is Cancelled.

Any help from Al or if Steve has heard anything please let us know!!

Now in saying all that my discussion I would like to open is what can we speculate is going to happen to the remaining product?

-Will be released in UD Rookie Update (possibly delaying that even once again?)

-a SP authentic Update set of some sort? Wether it be a hobby box product or a mail in product?

-Scrap it all together, causing mass hysetria now cutting the production of Crosby, Ovy and co to 449 possible cards? Renewing interest in Wave 1?

My biggest concern for me is as some of you know I am one of the crazy people this year attempting to piece together the Future Watch patch set, now about 20-25 of them have not yet been released and haven't been seen, I know a few other in the set have had very little appear as well (eg. I have seen one Kevin Nastiuk online) will this set be cut short? (Very disappointed that these 25 or so cards have yet to appear but Upper Deck said from the beginnnig the collation will be spread evenly into the two waves.) anyhow I would appreciate comments/opinions please.

Al if you could get some info on this for next week you'll be a Beckett Hockey GOD!!

This is just another brilliant job by Upper Deck. Their product planning and foresight are impeccable. I'm glad that I don't bust any wax.

color me.....confused. If the original news about the product being parcelled out in two batches is correct, then they have a TON of RC's, etc. that need to find a way into packs. Rookie Update makes some sense, but why put singles that could be found in a previous release into a product that is supposed to be an "update"? Perhaps they are keeping these cards for future releases of SPA to be used as "buyback" stock...complete with cornball certificates! Yes, I am being sarcastic. But seriously, what in the 'ell are the good folks at UD thinking? The remaining stock that isn't moving at drastically reduced pricing still has to be opened, and now they have this bit of news? Assuming it is all correct as stated above, I can't see any way that any card company could make lemonade out of these lemons.

I'm just proud that it's apparent collectors are finally getting smart and saying they're "not going to pay a lot for this muffler." I felt that from the beginning this 2 wave nonsense was going to lead to a (gross) lack of value in the SPA product. With the amount of rookies in this year's crop, there's no reason they couldn't give at least 3 "hits" (2 auto'd FW and 1 SOTT) in each box and still increase the box run by 33%. However, this 50-100% increase in production seriously caused a drought in value. I hope collectors continue to avoid low value breaks like SPA and maybe UD might get wise sooner or later... most likely later.

I have been waiting to see a Sigalet Auto/Patch. I talked to a bunch of guys in LA and they busted 60 cases among them. Not only did they not pull one, they have never seen one.

It doesn't make any sense that UD would cancel the second wave. Assumming that there was a two wave release plan all along (and all signs point to that being 100% true), then that means there are a significant number of cards that are part of stated print runs that are not on the market - and need to make it to market if the product is to salvage any lingering integrity. As for cards increasing in value to a lowered print run, well that's not really possible as they are all serial numbered (the RCs I mean) so that's how many there are. Just think of the gigantic headache that would be involved in restating the number of each card that is currently available on the market - not a small task, and not something I would think possible or realstic.

From a PR point of view, UD would be much better off cutting back the run on wave 2, bumping up the number of box/case hits and releasing it in a package/box that is easily distinguishable to the average consumer. If wave 2 turns out to be a solid break it will lift the entire product which will ultimately result in more sales of the first wave. At the end of the day, a stacked second wave will help them save face with consumers and dealers - if handled properly.

I don't know anyone at Grosnor, but I would be hesitant to trust a distributor on this matter as they are in the business of moving product, so it's in their best interest to say there is no second wave, so youre only option is to buy what is currently available and collecting dust in warehouses across North America. Afterall, these are the same guys (distributors in general, not Grosnor specfically) who try so hard to create artifical demand during the pre-release stage saying the the product is under tight supply, and often times cut back by UD prior to release, which is all a bunch of hooey!

Just my 2 cents, but I am banking on UD sticking to the 2 wave plan with some revision for second wave.

Daaaaamn...I agree whole heartedly with Adam....dude makes more and more sense everytime he types on his keyboard.....if UD were to cancel the second wave, it would destroy the integrity of every serial #'d card in the product.....

I agree with your statement too Adam for that would only make sense but why do you think I am so concerned? Has UD ever done anything tht made sense? Trust me if any company were to screw this up your dealing with it!

Really since when did UD have integrity? In order to have integrity you must have to defend it and I cannot recall one situation at all that UD has corrected anything on an integrity basis.

It's not that they want to do this on purpose they just don't care, they are 99.99999999%%%%%%%%%%% in it for the money!

reason #365 why I am staying away from Upper Deck in the year 05-06. 06-07 doesn't look too great for rookies either so I might be digging for older rookies. UD has the Porsche and are beating it into the ground this year with this rookie class. It's sooooooooo sad.

I'm not gonna put to much stock in what a distributor says but I wasn't gonna bust any of this anyways nor did I bust any of the first wave so whatever. One thing I'm worried about is if wave 2 is cancelled what's going to happen to all the cards that didn't make it into wave one. I'm trying for the dual sott set and there are 5 cards I haven't even seen yet so I assumed they would be put into wave 2. Can anyone confirm the existance of these duals

Sundin/O'neill
Nash/Brule
Spezza/Heatley
Lecavalier/St.Louis
Brodeur/Rafalski

I think I've seen one Brodeur/Rafalski and one Spezza/Heatley but none of the others. There are also a couple I've only seen 1 or 2 of.

I was told today by my source that wave two will be cut in half.
That was it. Not if there was going to be double the box hits or the case hits. Just that wave two is cut in half.
I will say this my source is a UD direct dealer. Although he would not say where he heard it.

Thanks
Ken

I heard the whole" Ud is cancelling wave 2" again today at the card show, but I'll stand by my assertion that it's not gonna happen. It's not like UD is gonna let a ton of cards that are already produced be destroyed or otherwise sit around. UD is still a business and that would be a HUUUUUUUUGE financial loss if they did that. UD may be stupid, but even they aren't that stupid. I can see them repackaging it, doubling the odds per pull (go from 3 hits per box to 6 or 7 hits per box)and then cranking up the price, but not destroying or cancelling it altogether....

wave 2 cancelled

message from my wholesaler:

SPA NHL – While it was previously announced that wave two orders would be cut by 50%, market realities have prompted Upperdeck to re-evaluate the situation. Consequently, all orders for wave two of SPA NHL will now be eliminated 100%.

UD believes they are protecting their direct buyers and wholesalers from a product that has dropped below cost after the initial wave. SPA had far too many SP's and lower tier rookies, very similar to UD ICE. There is no way any of the second wave will appear in Update. Update is scheduled to be released this week, so obviously it's already packaged. I'd like to hear some opinions on SPA hockey. Personally I think it was a huge disappointment.

Do you really need to hear opinions? This whole thread was an indirect "SPA ****ed" thread. Not only that, everywhere you look people have complained about it and the price continues to sink like the titanic.

SPA is the worst product I have ever seen, bar none. For $120 a box (CDN) at release most boxes yielded $20-$30 return.

It was garbage and I wouldn't crack it unless it falls to $50 a box.
