Some Breaking news for yas!! Concerning SP authentic

i think they cancelled orders,not cancelled the product,i think it will go to the highest bidder(aka dave and adams card world) and be sold at much less a box 50-60.00 as is with no changes.just a thought

It's getting close to that, I saw a whole bunch of SPA at $73 in my nect of the woods.
 
Somehow, someway this product will make itself onto the marketplace. Think about those hard to get E-Volve cards that were being sent around as replacements last year. Those cards shouldn't have existed since the redemption period expired.

Once again, leave it to Upper Deck to take a great situation and make it flop miserably.
 
cjk, how do you know hes not simply shipping you some of the first wave that he bought cheap on the secondary market? UD has confirmed that Wave 2 orders will not be honored.
 
SPA Series 2 is toast for sure. My source says that they expect to hear something soon about the "leftover" stuff since UD is stuck with approx $2.5MM worth of product. Mike

Unreleased product and unredeemed singles are different issues completely! UD makes no bones about putting an expiry on their redemption, at which point they go into replacement stock - hey, something has to be replacement stock. Putting unreleased cards into the market as replacements that never even had the chance to see the light of day through normal avenues is unacceptable, IMO.

I'm not sure if Q said it here or on Beckett but I would expect to see UD do a box giveaway promo at the Fall Expo (crack some product, get some free product) before they start using it as replacement stock.

Well if this is all true, I hope to hell somebody or a group of people file a class action lawsuit against UD. These guys are starting to make Enron look good. How are we supposed to know the print run on anything now? How are we supposed to know if there are 999 Crosby RC's or only 100? Or 15 Triple SOTT's or 2?What about the Octographs that may not ever hit the market now? Do we count them as even existing? I guess I know what my request is gonna be for the next redemption that UD can't fill:

Me: Why yes. I would like the Sidney Crosby Rareified Rookie 1/1 that I am sure is sitting around there since it should have been packaged in SP Authentic Wave 2. Or maybe one of the Octographs SOTT's. I'm sure that would suffice.
UD Rep: I'm dropping it in a white envelope and putting it in the mail to you as we speak sir. You should have it in 6-8 weeks. Thank you for choosing Upper Deck where we continue to keep you as close to hockey history as you can get!!!

Guys, I think everyone is reading too much into this. Like Mikeysleafs said, the ORDERS were cancelled, not the product. There is no way that this product will not be released, no way in h-e-l-l... The distributors will get it at a reduced cost from Upper Deck now and if anyone wants the stuff now, it will go out at a cheaper cost. In CJkeuhn's post, it says the orders are cancelled, not the product... Expect to see it offered up from wholesalers around the same time Wave 2 was supposed to be shipped originally. Upper Deck realized that there is no way they could charge distributors/wholesalers, etc. the IPO price of the SPA considering how much the boxes have dipped. They did a smart thing here actually, because they saved face with distributors and wholesalers that would have lost their shirts...

Rod, All I can tell you is what my source says and they are the 4th largest direct UD customer in the USA. They have been told by UD that the second wave of SPA has been canceled due to lack of orders and interest. Mike
 
I think it will still get out - no way they just scrap those cases. course, getting them to dry up may not be the easiest thing in the world.
 
Probably a dumb question, but the wave 2 cards have actually been printed up right? They've already paid the workers to pack em up, insert the insert cards, etc.? They''ve paid the athletes for all the hard-signed autos (which aren't reusable)? Sounds like a lot of money to throw away, but then again UD can probably afford it?
 
Well, I just talked with a distributor he said that Upper Deck offered to take back ANY product that the distributors want to give back at the price they paid for it, so, anything that has gone down in value will be going back to Upper Deck I would think!! If you see boxes cheap, buy them, because I don't think the wax dumping is gonna be happening any longer...

I don't understand what is going on with this whole deal, BUT, Upper Deck is buying back there product, so, I GUESS they could give everything away as "BUYBACKS" now officially, right?? :p

This getting more strange by the minute!!

I'm going out on a limb and saying that Rookie Update and Fleer Hot Prospects are going to be the final 2 products that UD releases this year.

No Ultimate or The Cup.

Take a look at the news release that UD put out recently.

Couple that with all of the product delays and now the SP Authentic debacle... to me, that says Fleer Hot Prospects will be the final 2005/06 product.
