Something different for my collection...need some guidance

Hey all,

I've never collected any game-used gear before, so looking for some guidance from those that have more experience in this area.

What do you all think of this auction? 160234243707

I'm not too sure if I feel comfortable with the description and the sellers' COA is the purchase receipt...

Should I be staying far away from this or if it were a player you collected would you feel OK with it?

I'd inquire as to where he got them, review a copy of the "receipt", more pictures of them, etc. I've only bought game-used sticks and haven't paid that much for them, so maybe some of the other guys can add more.

I'd buy them if it were for one of my collections. I guess it depends what kind of price the auction ends up at though.

I'd ask where they were bought at, TML team store, online somewhere else, etc.

Even if they were purchased at the TML store, doesn't necessarily mean they came with a COA. I've seen a fair number of game used skates at nhl equipment sales and the markings on the bottom look good to me.

Thanks to all who have replied so far. I have also sent a message to the seller and will report back. Seems like nobody here is throwing up red flags and yelling for me to "Run! Run Fast!" so I'm feeling a bit better

Hei,

Anytime I go to buy something GU, I always try to photomatch it with a pic from an NHL game. You can do a google image search, compare to hockey cards, or rifle thru the Leafs photo albums on their site, but I find the best way is to look at Getty Images site. Look for any markings or anything unique that would set the item apart from possible fakes. It doesn't guarantee that it's real, it just minimzes the chance it's a fake.

I would look for you but Getty and eBay are blocked here on my work computer

You can photomatch pretty much anything. With help from Brian (koondog44) I photomatched a pair of Rob DiMaio game used socks. Vegaspuck is an excellent photomatcher (I know, not a real word) also.

I own several gamers, no equipment yet. I have two IHL Atlanta Knights gamers of Jason Ruff, neither has any type of paperwork with it. I had several programs and posters to match the jersey to.
I agree with jääkiekko. It doesn't matter as much having the COA's to prove where it was from, more of what you can prove. Great website with tons of information on gameworn items is gameworn.net. Also, huge help to me in authenticating my jersey's was this guy, Milt Byron. his email [email protected]

If they were purchased from the ACC, then there wont be a COA, at least I have never received one from 9 or 10 purchased there over the years. ACC stuff includes game ready, game worn and practice worn.

The only problem I see with the auction is that the photo he posted as a photomatch (IF that is the one he talks about) does NOTHING to prove that Kaberle wore them. The photo of the skates shows the outside left skate and inside right skate, while the picture of Kaberle shows outside right and inside left (did you all follow that...lol).

Having said that, if he does have a better photo to match it too...skates would be a pretty cool item to have.

After looking through many many photos of Tomas Kaberle, I have discovered...he keeps his skates REALLY clean for a d-man.

Seriously tho, here is the closest thing I found to a match using the puckmarks as a guide...

It may seem to be a bit of a stretch, but it is in the right spot and look how faint the logo on the skate is in the action picture. Close up, the logo stands out and the puckmarks are not bold but noticeable. Factoring in how faint the bold logo is in the action shot, the puckmark we see there is about right in comparison.

The picture was undated.

Maybe someone can find something a little more solid, I've never been a master at this. Hopefully this helps tho.
