Hall 5 was bumping as usual and having a good time. I feel bad for Hall 4 Vendors as they felt like the leftovers who couldn't get into Hall 5.

I think what they should do is fill up Hall 4 with all the vendors in the interchange area between Hall 4 and 5. As they are winding up with more space now, that area might not be as needed. Hall 4 had a lot more space than it use to the first time they opened that up in November.

I wasn't really in the other hall so I don't really have an educated opinion on that BUT all I have to say is WOW!!!! What an event! Best show I've ever had and it's been over ten years as a vendor! Even though prices are down overall, the craze is still fully alive. SO many new collectors in the hobby....quite refreshing to see! How many of you interacted with 12 old kids who were so knowledgeable of the hobby and making wicked $700-$800 purchases and negotiating their own deals without mom or dad around??? You can see the future in the hobby. Some kids were so so well spoken, fair, socially aware of the buyer-seller relationship....other kids; absolutely clueless!

Another random observation....IT WASN'T AS LOUD AS IT USUALLY WAS IN THE PAST. PA held to a bare minimum!

Oh yeah! Another highlight....I sold a card to Ameet!!! Woo Hoo!

Parking was better this time around.
Too many people with backpacks that don't pay attention. So many times I was bumped with them, and other as well. Seen many smaller kids get whacked in the head with them. One guy tried to strong arm me out of his way, not that I was purposely in it. Poor little guy moved himself more than he did me.
I didn't stay as long as I wanted because my anxiety was kicking in.
I did walk out with a few more cards than I usually would have though. Looking forward to the Fall Expo.

Solid show overall. I found Friday, Saturday and Sunday to be very irregular - frenetic bursts interspaced with boredom. I likened it to being a car driven by someone who doesn't know how to drive stick, complete with a lot of grinding.

It was my 2nd best show ever. People didn’t haggle me on my prices. I came with a 2 four lanes boxes of show case cards. I left with one row of cards in one box!

People tend to nickel and dime $10 and under cards but not so much with bigger ticket items haha.

Solid show. Traffic was quite heavy at times. I felt like the trades I made were better than usual which I always like the best. Good to see the hobby is alive and kicking.

First time at the show on Sunday, it was a neat experience! I do wish Hall 4 was more lively as well! Quite overwhelming, I didn't have a plan in mind, so didn't end up picking up any big cards, just 1-3 dollar bin cards. Wish there were more shows in Toronto!

It was my first Expo and I enjoyed it. The first hour was little overwhelming, there's a lot to see. I was surprised to see how much cash there was being thrown around. Seems like lots of cards were moving.
For my PC, I was slightly disappointed there wasn't more sealed wax. Outside of the newest releases from this year and Grizzly's table of mostly high priced stuff, there wasn't much for me to find from 2000 to 2015 for my sealed pack project. I thought there would be more.
For my other PC, autographs, there were some tables with lots of hockey ink but it was guys who I had already dealt with online. Only found one vintage team signed program and a couple autographs. One guy did have some sweet 1930s team signed sheets but his prices were CRAZY.
I enjoyed the Hockey Hall of Fame table. Got some great books for $.50 and $1. Randomly met Brian McFarlane there, that was cool.

Would go again. I enjoyed the atmosphere more than anything else.

Had a great time. It was the first time I ever tried trading for cards and had some great success with it. There was A LOT more non-hockey since the last time I was at the show so I was able to skip a lot of vendors and displays which made the aisle walks a bit quicker. Prices were all of the place, which made researching prices before the trip worthwhile.

It was much better than November I found. Prices were more realistic on most of the cards and dealers were open to discuss prices. I found some nice pieces for the collection. Overall had a great time!

I'll post my pickups in the Show and Tell forum soon, but thought I'd share some thoughts here. Really in no particular order...

- I couldn't go to the past few expos due to a number of factors, so just being back was cool

- I don't mind having a few pops here and there, so I thought it was cool to see that you could buy beer and walk around the show with it. Credit to the cured meat guy setting up RIGHT BESIDE the beer vendor

- In general I really liked the selection. I found that similar to other shows it never hurts to ask...sometimes vendors might have what you want but don't have the space to showcase everything

- Was cool to see Quincy (again) and Ameet (first time). Jeremy - I swung by your tables but there were a lot of people there so I didn't want to interrupt (and it looked like you were in the middle of a deal)! Sorry to the other forum members who were there that I didn't say hi to...I didn't really follow that roll-call thread. Next time.

- I didn't talk to every vendor because, well, it would just take way too long. But the folks I did talk to were generally super cool. Shoutouts to some at the end of this thread

- I was trying to trade up/sell some things and when I'd show what I had and provided my asking price, I found a lot of times it would just be a "not interested". Was it that my price was too high? Was it that they wanted some and maybe not others? It's really hard to tell with that kind of response. I don't think I received a single counter-offer. I was not a fan of that

- I heard directly and indirectly (overheard) a number of vendors (and patrons to be honest) referencing historical offers on something. For example if a card was priced at $100 and someone offered $70, I don't know how many times I heard "Oh just last week someone offered me $95 and I declined it". I don't get the point. That was last week, or last year, or whatever, and this is now.

- We made it through Hall 4 in record timing and I really didn't see a lot of things there that were for me, but I saw some super cool stuff in the hallway.

- I personally find it hard to walk around with a bag that is somewhat organized. I've gotta find a better way to separate what I'd like to trade or sell, what I'm buying, etc.

-I did, though, walk around with a notebook and would write down notes about different booths, for example if there was something at the booth I liked I'd jot it down so I could come back to it (if it was still there!). The notebook will be back @ the next expo for sure.

Shoutouts:
Total Sports - I spent way too much time @ these booths. They just seemed to have stuff that I thought was super cool.

The guy on the 'north' side of Big Pete's booth. If you're on here, sorry I always forget your name. Always has some cool stuff and I'm pretty sure every expo we chat it up, but I've never pulled the trigger yet. Maybe one day I'll pick up that Mahovlich/Kelly dual scripted pucks 1/1...

Grant from A Wad of Cards - Super cool guy to chat with and we settled on a really smooth deal for a cool PC piece.

KC Collectibles - This guy helped me out with filling a lot of the holes I had/have in my Tim Horton's sets and for a reasonable price.

Bossa - Killer chat with this guy about his vintage cards. I have very few vintage cards but a few in his showcase jumped out at me and, well, you'll see perhaps in the Show and Tell forum what resulted.

MLSE - They don't care about this post, but I love looking through what they bring every year. I'm a Leafs fan so I think it is super neat to have them with all kinds of cool game used/player worn gear.

ONE QUESTION to all of you vendors: What do you do with your stuff at night? Like some of y'all have some super high end stuff. Do you bring some pieces home (hotel) with you? Wrap everything in barbed wire and hit the bar? I always wondered this!

PS if anyone picked up any cool "old-guy" Leafs hard autos, you know how to get a hold of me.

Speaking for myself and A LOT of dealers: locked into the showcases, the showcases in turn go into a "show bag" (also sometimes called a "body bag") which is usually either heavy canvas or kevlar and THOSE are locked. There is also security all night in the venue.

This show was a write off.

Was able to go down 3 rows, chat with a few members and suddenly had to leave. Ended up in bed all day ,very sick into the next morning and didn't have time to go back for another day. Not much I could do about it

I was fortunate enough to get a Zet's delivery and bust 1 box of series 2 for the hell of it.Thanks Will for everything and maybe the next expo I won't have such bad luck

Overall was another fun experience for me. Picked up a few cards for the goalie PC, and chatted with a few collectors. It's always fun seeing everyone enjoying this hobby all in one place. A very busy atmosphere! I always have a blast randomly wandering around and looking at everyone's impressive cardboard.

Here's a thought. Could they shrink down the corporate areas a bit to get the Hall 4 guys in? I mean they really took a lot of space up in Hall 5. I would love for them to be in Hall 4 while we let all the vendors be in Hall 5 and together we all have a good time.

I’ve heard that there is a dealer waiting list and dealers that want more space than they were given… hall 4 is here to stay for the time being.

That said, I don’t think any of the dealers WANT to be in hall 4 - some likely decided not to set up when hall 4 was their only choice.

I think you are right. The air hockey table section near the back doors of Hall 4 really felt makeshift. The vendors near them really got a bad shake. There was VERY little traffic back there both Friday and Saturday when I was there.

They probably showed up, saw their spot and thought it wasn't worth it.

The show was great. Plenty of traffic, plenty of dealers, very interactive, choice of sports (vs it being 70% hockey), lots of buying and selling...everything you want in a show.

The problem has now become the venue. The Expo has outgrown anything that Toronto has to offer by way of convention space and unless someone builds a massive space like the IX Center in Cleveland (or unless the Expo promoters realize the importance of signage to let people know that there was in fact a second hall), this is going to continue to be a mess. I felt sorry (AGAIN!) for the dealers in the second hall.

If Steve Menzie is reading this...SIGNAGE. Do your dealers a favour.
