Sport Card Expo April 2023 thoughts?

Shoutouts:
The guy on the 'north' side of Big Pete's booth. If you're on here, sorry I always forget your name. Always has some cool stuff and I'm pretty sure every expo we chat it up, but I've never pulled the trigger yet. Maybe one day I'll pick up that Mahovlich/Kelly dual scripted pucks 1/1...

Steve (dahabs26) and I (trekrun), we were both set up in Big Pete's booth.
I had a couple of Mahovlich / Kelly 1/1s in my showcases.
ONE from Trilogy Signature Pucks and the other ONE from ITG Ultimate Memorabilia.
Thank you for stopping by, Petar.

The show was great. Plenty of traffic, plenty of dealers, very interactive, choice of sports (vs it being 70% hockey), lots of buying and selling...everything you want in a show.

The problem has now become the venue. The Expo has outgrown anything that Toronto has to offer by way of convention space and unless someone builds a massive space like the IX Center in Cleveland (or unless the Expo promoters realize the importance of signage to let people know that there was in fact a second hall), this is going to continue to be a mess. I felt sorry (AGAIN!) for the dealers in the second hall.

If Steve Menzie is reading this...SIGNAGE. Do your dealers a favour.

Since he's also the promoter of the Fan Expo. Why not just put the show at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre once and for all. There is a ton of space between the South and North locations. Hotels are everywhere. Transit. Off the Gardiner Expressway.

I see absolutely no reason, outside of cost, why they wouldn't want to try this. You are absolutely right the space is no longer it.

I'm sure it's due to price

Price and availability of just the venue for a start. Never mind the fact that the costs for accommodations go up hugely as well once you get downtown. I'd also like to point out that the downtown center suffers the same issues of venue fragmentation as the current site. It's addressed with more planning and more active shaping of the venues.

I'm from Toronto and would not go downtown for a card show. Its a mess and will be for years. They just closed a big section of Queen Street for the next 4.5 years :foottap::foottap:

I found that the dealers were more in touch this expo. Some way more than others. There were multiple $100 plus dollar cards that I didn’t even try to haggle with prices.

I wish that the aisles had numbers on them. There was a dealer who I made a purchase from before the expo and he gave me his booth number. Their was no signage at all saying what aisle numbers that their are.

I have no idea why they no longer have the aisle numbers on the ends of rows... such a dumb, little thing that adds a ton of convenience.

The ONLY way I found any dealers was by the numbers on the flooring.
SIMPLE solution would be to have the # on their NAMEPLATE but that changes from show to show!
