Hi all,

just wanted to let everyone know that there is a Sports Card and Collectible Show in Winnipeg on March 16 at Grant Park High School. Admission is $2.50 (I think) and table rentals are $50 for one table, $95 for two and $135 for three.

The shows in Winnipeg may not be like they were in the late 80's, 90's and early 2000's, but the only way that they can get even better is for people to come to the shows to collect and buy, sell and trade. Also renting a table/s brings more people out because you'll most likely promote the fact you have stuff to sell with your acquaintences and friends.

Come out for a good time.

I am not the promoter of the show, but the more each collector promotes the happenings of the hobby in their circle of friends, co-workers, classmates, etc, the more the hobby grows.

I used to love the Grant Park show back in the late 80's. They were so busy you could barely get up to the showcases to see what people were selling. Hopefully its a great show and good luck to all who go and set up there.

The show has really been hurting for the last year or so. Couple reasons:

1) I used to find the show great because I could get everything on my want list at a reasonably competitive price or blowout. Now that the new Jets are a focus as they are for many collectors, the 'local' price increase puts me out of range for purchase. So it's easier to trade here or pick up on comc

2) the biggest draw for a number of collectors it seems was the Ramsays and their blowout tables, partly because they opened so much and had such a low ask price, but also because they brought so much with them and rotated stock more than some at the show. I think they haven't been at a show since 2011.

3) lack of Allan doing much - I've talked with a few collectors about this. There just is no promotion for the show to bring in collectors who don't know otherwise about it, and no autograph guests make for little incentive. Back in the day Richard, Bower and Beliveau signed, as did local heroes like Steen

Of course it's on March 16th, always lands on my Saturday to work, ugh!

Jon hit the nail on the head on #3. Never any promotion for the show, I've had times where I literally heard about it only days before.

There are many reasons a person could give for why the Grant Park Card Show isn't as big of a draw as it used to be. But why don't we as collectors be proactive. Those who have stuff to sell, get a table. Those who have lists of stuff to buy or just want some good deals, come and buy (last show there was a Mike Trout auto rookie priced at $6, but worth over $100). I can speak as a dealer at the show and as a buyer. I go into the shows at least one of the two shows per year. I usually have one table and it is always worth it. This show I'll have a bunch of tables. Even the connections made with other collectors is worthwhile. As a buyer, it has always been worth my while to go. Dale's table is always full of deals, so is Ricks. Adam always has a great selection of old and has a bunch of stuff always discounted in price. Ethan always has great deals at his bunch of tables and so on.
With the amount of people who collect cards and open packs in the city, it would be an amazing show if all those who have traders or stuff they don't want to set up their stuff and sell it. If we as collectors promote the show as well, more people will come too.

I may check it out with my younger cousins. Hopefully it is better then the last one, as that was a huge disappointment
