I was at a few local card shops to over the last few months and I have heard this comment from several people.

"The fall expo is better than the spring expo"

When I press for more information, they all say one thing.

Hockey is in full motion in the fall but not in the spring..

I disagree since playoffs for Hockey, playoff's for Basketball and start of baseball season happens in the spring.

Anyways, I would love to hear your reasons for why one is better than the other OR maybe you think they are both the same.

(PS: I'd to see some replies to the thread in addition to the poll)

I've been to about 3 or 4 of each, and I have to admit that there's seems to be more "buzz" about the fall expo. I think there are a few reasons for that. First of all, it's very early in the season, so no matter what team you root for, there is hope. Another reason is that UD1 is always released at the fall expo, and that product alone drives a significant amount of interest in the hobby.
Finally, for many collectors in the 25-55 age group (or thereabouts) the fall tends to be the time of year that we have the most spending cash, and fewest demands on our time. For a lot of us, during the spring, there are home renovations, and general maintenance which place demands on both our time, and our pocket books.
For me personally, I always enjoy the expo no matter which season, but the Fall Expo is definitely seems to consistently be the more "exciting" of the two, in my opinion.

If the Fall expo is "better" because UD1 is just released and there is more hockey buzz, wouldn't it follow then that there are better deals to be had at the Spring Expo as the dealers are looking to sell product to a smaller crowd?

With respect to the matter of there being less dealers at the spring version than the fall one, based on the last four years of being at seven Expos, the difference is negligible and barely noticeable.

I have only been to the Fall expo, so I am looking forward to the Spring show. I really do not care about new releases, though I may crack a few boxes for redemptions. I collect vintage and there are always plenty of vintage tables there to my knowledge. As another poster has said it may also be a good time to pick up cheaper wax. Anyway, we will find out in another few weeks.

Wax is always cheaper on Sundays.. when everyone is itching to go home LOL...

Both are equal. To be honest the Expo is about about seeing the crew and chatting about the hobby over a weekend. It there is cardboard bought,it's a bonus.

In terms of deals, Spring is better. WAY BETTER. Wax, singles, everything is cheaper. Harder to trade with some though since prices are so low. In terms of quantity, Fall is better. People just have way more stock or something. I don't know why, could be some of the reasons mentioned above, but that's just how it's been the last few years I went.

Plus this year, it doesn't seem like SPA or Ultimate will even be out! No hot rookies to chase other than ICE maybe
