Storing higher-end cards in a binder? Anyone do this?

So, in an effort to look at my crap more often I was thinking about using binders more. Recently put some sets in a couple of them and it makes it a heck of a lot nicer, and more importantly, easier to look at. I've got some BTP Masked Men sets stored in one, as well as one of the BTP GUJ sets, but was wondering about possibly storing a patch set in one and it got me wondering if anyone else does so?

I'm currently doing the 13/14 BTP Patch set as well as the Masked Men Memorabilia trio and wondered about storing them in a binder. Seems a little skimpy on the level of protection for such cards but wanted to hear some options. Anyone?

Ultimate Guard Zipper Binders are AMAZING to use. They are mainly used by gaming card collectors. The pockets are side loading and you can get 9 and 12 card per page binders. I have my 68-69 OPC set in one of the binders that fits 12 cards per page. Each card is in a soft sleeve as well, so thick cards should have no issues sliding in. The nice part about it being zippered close is you don't get the dust settling on the top row of cards. The binders usually store 300-400 cards, however for thicker cards you may only get half of that if you are lucky in it.

Stick with the hard cover binders and not the flimsy ones. I have had these binders for years and the cards have all stayed in great condition. I enjoy looking through them more being all together in sets. They typically run for $20-$40 each depending on the size and model of the folio.

I hope this helps.

Interesting, never heard of them. I'll have to Google me up some research. Right now just using the Ultra Pro ones.

Which hardcover ones do you mean? They all look somewhat soft.

I store 99% of my PC cards in binders. Even patch cards.

It can be a tight squeeze, but it looks better and allows me to sift through my entire collection so much easier and stores it neatly.

My issue with storing higher end items in binders is the possibility they slip out (especially thin auto cards). Happened to me once and I learned my lesson.

I would recommend you don't put any high end cards in binders. They could slide out, get damanged by the binder ring, or something bad. Binders are great for the lower end sets but I'd highly recommend not putting expensive cards in them

For that issue I just add a base card behind the card in a penny sleeve. This helps "fill up" the pocket more to prevent card slip outs. Hope this helps!

Just bought a Ultimate which has the Strap instead of the Zipper. I put my whole GU'd, Autos & Gold Version Broad Street Boys cards in this one.

I will be buying the Zipper one's moving forward.

Just about everything in my Sakic collection is in binders. Only exceptions are stuff like ITG Superlative or Ultimate which comes in sealed cases.

Is the cover flimsy or hard? If you have the flimsy kind I recommend not keeping the strap covering it. It warps the first page top right card over time.

I would never store any valuable ungraded card outside of a sleeve and toploader. It's those minor damages to commended and edges that drive perfectionists crazy.

They make top loader binders though. They are typically more expensive than other binders, but definitely worth it to preserve a nicer collection.
