Team Set Colllector - how to handle Black Diamond?

Okay so I decided I would try to lessen the wounds to my pocketbook recently and just focus on building team sets from base cards of the Red Wings. No rookies, no sps or parralells, just base cards.

So far so good. I've put together almost every team set from every release. My only dilema is how to treat Black Diamond from this year.

Most people consider the base set up the single diamond cards up to #84. But if you go that route it's 2 cards. If I go after all the cards minus rookies...I've got two quad diamonds to contend with - yzerman and howe which will probably cost me $50 to pick up.

This was supposed to be a cheap alternative... ;-)

So what do you think? skip the set? Go for Black Diamond and only do the 2 cards or go for them all?

In my opinion I'd say go for what you can comfortably afford and what you'd be happy with.

Well said bugjam.

I've tried to come up with certian parameters for my similar devils team sets but there is always an exception. If you only build a small set and still feel unsatisfied then it might be worth spending the coin to have a full set. Shelling out big bucks for cards has always kinda bothered me but when I have the card in hand I don't regret it at all.

Good news though, looking at ebay completed sales it looks like the pair might only cost you $20-30. Wait it out and you might get the pair for $25 total.
