Yes were all sick by now of the Pens dilemma but there is an official offer to get the team to move to Kansas City...

From what they say in the article they will be moved but from what I understood still be under the same management and play rent free in this new Sprint Centre. The deal seems pretty darn good and well we dont know all the details but from the outside I say this must have been music to the ears of Lemieux and the others who own the Pens.

30 days for the Pens to decide what to do. It's time to exhaust all options to keep the team in Pittsburgh. If they can't work it out now then move on I guess. No point dwindling.

I was watching Prime Time sports yesterday and McCowan (spelling is wrong I know) was yammering on about KC; talking about the city and such. He was saying it's the 26th largest city in the USA, etc etc etc. So then he asks Jim Kelley what the largest city in North America is that -doesn't- have an NHL team. McCowan's answer? Toronto :D :D

*ahem* I think it'd be a **** shame to see a city like Pittsburgh lose their NHL team but I felt the same about Quebec City and Winnipeg, even Hartford to an extent.
 
Umm yea I wouldnt jump too fast there guys ......Its an offer that would still have to be approved by the NHL and if the Penguins have an arena offer here in pittsburgh the NHL will not let them move
 
I think it is way to soon to say but would be sweet for me... Have them real close at least get to see tghem 5-6 times a year. Cool with me... Why is it that Pittsburgh doesnt do something to keep them????? I dont get the polotics of it all ..... Maybe they need to get the Heinz family involved not sure... Chad

I'm of the opinion after reading this:

"They have told us they will make a decision within 30 days," Leiweke said. "We will know within 30 days whether they are going to work out their issues in Pittsburgh and get an arena built, or whether they will ask the NHL for permission to move the team to Kansas City."

The negotiations with KC are in all likelihood a bargaining chip to help the Pittsburgh/PA levels of government see the light of day.. ;)

What with a fine corp of young & upcoming player's. Pittsburgh/PA would be moving with blinder's if they chose to let the Pens re-locate! :eek:

The arena offer would have to be comparable I would imagine. I don't see why the NHL would stop the move into a brand new stadium that is already constructed in which the team would not have to pay a dime to play there. Especially where the alternative is the Penguins paying something like 8 million a year to build their own arena with some support from others. Obviously moving the team isn't the ideal scenario, but it's gonna happen unless the PA Gov't makes a strong offer of support. Kansas City would stabilize the Pens for the forceable future, and with the young players there, would contend in the near future. Do I sense another Quebec City--> Colorado situation?

However, Brian is most likely right. It's a negotiation tool. But I don't think they want to call Mario's bluff, because I think he's sick of the drama surrounding this team.

I would like to see the team stay put but that may not happen. Why did KC lose its other franchise ? It'll never happen I know but if they had moved to London Ontario there would a great fan base to draw from . It would have been a wake up call for the Leafs management if they had competition for their fan base.

Kinda reminds me of that team from Quebec that had a 25 year old Joe Sakic, 20 year old Peter Forsberg, a young Owen Nolan, Fiset, Foote, Thibault, Kovalenko, Ruckinsky, Wendell Clark...........etc, etc, etc....LOL:rolleyes: ;)

I think they're outta there or there will be a plan in place (if there isn't already)and it will be announced as a last ditch effort at the midnight hour to make it look more dramatic!:)
 
The Pens are done in Pittsburgh, and the sooner they move, the better for all involved.

The KC option is obviously the best option available to the Pens and the NHL. Second would be Oklahoma City. Third might be Winnipeg if the NHL plans to continue the socialist propping of non-competitive markets enacted by the current CBA.

I would love to see the Avs have a close, natural rival like KC. Perhaps that might even lure the NHL into realigning and putting Minnesota, Dallas, KC, St Louis and Colorado in the same division. That would be very nice!
 
I'm sick of teams moving... and wasn't really keen on hearing about KC for the Pens... but if you look at how well the Thrashers revived hockey in Atlanta, after a few years of the Flames down there went sideways, then maybe KC would have the same effect on the local fans/businesses.

It would be a shame for Pittsburgh to lose the team over stupid politics, but let's face it... it's all politics of one form or another. As a Canuck, seeing a team back in Winnipeg would be sweet... just don't think the economics make that feasible. OK City? Nah... not a big enough fan base. Portland? Maybe... but doubtful. KC is second best option to keeping the team in Pittsburgh. My two cents.

Oklahoma City has a population larger than Buffalo, Raleigh, Ottawa, Calgary, Edmonton, and is as big as Winnipeg and Quebec City combined. None of this takes into consideration that Tulsa is just a short drive up the road (it's about as far from OK City as Hamilton is to Toronto), and has a population of 900,000 (which is bigger than Quebec City, Winnipeg and Hamilton by itself). And they don't have a pro sports team there. The Hornets have been welcomed with open arms, and they are just there for a couple years (they might have already moved back to New Orleans). They have a really nice brand new arena with no tenant.

It's not a traditional hockey market, but neither are Dallas, Raleigh, Tampa, San Jose, etc., all cities that have embraced their teams.

KC should be option #1, but Oklahoma City is a viable option as well.

There are lots of viable options I don't disagree there. The one thing people fail to consider is that this was the first major public offer made by any city. In order to even have the Pens ownership think about moving they need an offer first. Kansas is the only place to make and offer and it is a very lucrative offer to the Pens. Oklahoma City, Winnipeg, Las Vegas etc will not get a team if they don't come to the forefront like KC did. We can argue till were blue in the face which city is best suited but until they make a move they're not a factor.
