The Cup Fake Patches??

Just thought I'd put a heads up that there are some fake patches on ebay. I almost bought one till I looked closer near the patch itself which shows heavy signs of wear and debris. Mostly bigger name rc's out of 99. Don't want to name anyone but it's pretty obvious. I'm as of right now boycotting The Cup until UD does something about this.
 
This whole patch faking thing is really turning me off of game used cards..

there is a Trevor Linden limited logos on the bay right now, its an amazing looking card and patch, but im really sketched out to bid on these super nice patches now unless i know the seller or have seen it pulled with my own eyes. another thing thats turning me away is it has no bids LOL Linden LL with patches this nice have been selling for over 100 bucks consistantly

Can you link the examples you found.
 
I'm a new member so I can't post links yet. The card is a Patrick Kane The Cup RC 77/99. I suspect the Malkin maybe a repatch as well.

Wow I like how he cropped the photo to avoid showing the massive ding in the top left corner. What's the big deal with this product it's plagued with many issues to say the least.

Pathetic and sadly that it seems like there is no end for faked cards on ebay....
UD must stop to making super-thick ARP's or memos with ultra-deep windows otherwise many will continue to forging faked cards then.
 
This is a real turn off for the hobby and this is where the companies need to step up and be a few steps ahead of those doing this (some have what looks to be attempts).

I like Panini with the silhouettes. They are unique and if you are going to switch the swatch you have to be pretty damn good not to damage the card (getting around the cutout).

I also like what topps did with Strata, where the put a half plastic cover over the card.

What I would like to see would be a full cover over the jersey. Yes I know you would not be able to feel the jersey but if its going to preserve the integrity of the hobby then Im all for it. Its sad that people are scamming this industry but anytime money is to be made you can all but be certain someone is going to try and do something to exploit it.

The other thing that I was thinking was that there should be a data base made by the company in which they take a picture of every jersey card (that is a SP or numbered). Here you could go to the website and photo match your card, or the one you are bidding on, to the one that was actually produced by the company. This would be public information for all in the hobby and would hopefully stop those who exploit the hobby.

Sad part is I was once asked if a card I had for sale on eBay was tampered with (crazy looking hawks patch pulled right from the pack). I told the buyer NO and understand his concern. To re-assure him I told him to take a look at my other 100+ auctions to see how boring (for lack of a better term) my jersey/patch cards were.
 
Panini started this during the 11-12 season of putting the players name in with the glue before the patch is inserted. I see this with the 11-12 Dominion set. Take a APR put it up to a high powered light, patch side to the light and you should see the players name through the card. It's a small step forward but great to see the name over and over again on a nice patch card.
 
ITG puts some of their releases in sealed holders. While costs would go up, The Cup could look at something like that for its' rookies. I like the idea of a photo diary for EVERY RC but that still won't stop re-patching. If they went to a sealed holder, ultimately if you saw a card not in one, you would know to be careful because it possibly was tampered with. Sadly, The Cup RC's could eventually be viewed similarily to Star Basketball releases from the mid-80's...great sets but so many questions as to authenticity that not many will touch them, even if graded.

Although that may work.....I HATE the sealed toploaders that ITG uses. The seals break quite easily and they are ugly. Sure you can take them out, but then the card loses value if you ever want to sell it. Just not a fan at all.
 
How is this guy allowed to keep selling these cards on eBay? I guess they don't care because they get big money in their fees. It isn't like there is just one example and the guy could say he bought it like that and is just reselling it. It is 90% of his cards.

I just feel bad for the people who do not have a great site like this to help protect them.
 
About a year ago I sold him some low end Cup ARP's with really nice patches. I wonder if he was buying really nice legit patches from low end players to make the High end repatched ARP's look legit. Either way I added him to my block list over a year ago, I don't need business from shady individuals.
