The Cup Fake Patches??

Is this the infamous Kenny or someone else? If it is he is clearly scared since he keeps moving all over the place. Someone needs to put this guys behind bars b/c he has been doing this for over 10 years and from what I have seen in the hobby, he is the most shady individual in hobby history!

This is one of the baddest thing I've seen, after Kenny's work.

I can't believe people are trying to ruin the hobby. Hope we could do something for it.

Although there's almost certainly some of Kenny's work being sold this is not him. This is the well known group of high end guys from Quebec that are known shillers, patch fakers and general douchebags.

Darren

Perhaps they are all working together somehow? I wouldn't be surprised since scumbags generally tend to not only think the same, but work in groups.

LOL. I made an offer to the guy of 1$ for the Kane saying: That what a fake card Worth, you are a shame to the hobby.

Look at his answer:

'''You should check you facts first buddy, look anywhere this patch was on Matthew Donaldson's site and Ebaygomaz as an original. Go f*ck yourself. I am in Montreal, if you want to meet to discuss, it would be my pleasure to meet with you face to face. ''''

I have only one word for that: LOL

Did the guy actually check my Cup RC archive to see what the Kane 77/99 Cup RC looks like? Because the card obviously has a different patch...

I sent him this message after he wrote me that:

LOL. Anytime ! Until that, take a look at this: (your real card)

No answer yet !

Why can't they put plastic over the patch or entire card? I would love the CUP ARP cards looking like the UD ICE Scripted Swatches or something.

Haha, I bet Cupisbest, thinks he's a real big guy. Lol

His reputation is beyond tarnished now. A small but decent portion of the hockey community now knows to stay away from his items, so he will be having a much more difficult time flipping anything let alone fake ARP's.

Again... the manufacturers need to be paying attention to threads like these and come up with a way to make a card impossible to alter without destroying it. This severely damages the integrity of high end cards.

I was just saying that Cupisbest thinks he's a big shot. haha

This has been going on for over 5 years and nothing has been done. What can be done? Make all auto patch cards redemptions to prevent them getting into the hands of someone with shady fingers? Not likely.

I think that UD and Panini could make a mass scan of every main and high end cards.

For sure, by doing that, they're would be less surprise when we would rip packs/boxes/cases but I think it would be safier for us to buy singles.

Maybe the other reason why they don't do it: You want real cards? Buy boxes.... It's good for them too ...

Scanning every single high-end card going into a product (numbering in the thousands if not tens of thousands) is simply not practical. That costs time and money that Upper Deck doesn't have, and while Panini could probably afford to I just can't see any card company going through that much hassle because there are a handful of dirtbags out there faking patches. Even if they did you can be sure the cost of that will be passed on to collectors in higher box prices and there would be longer delays getting those products out the door. I also think, rather cynically, that if you pressed these companies enough to come up with a solution they'd eventually say "it's not our problem, we can't be responsible for what others do to the cards when they'e left the warehouse." Once the card is taken out of the pack, unless it arrived damaged in the box, they are basically no longer responsible for that card (unless it's a redemption of course). Secondary market value takes a big hit but then again the card companies are only worried about the primary market: getting product out the door. Even a company like ITG with excellent customer service probably can't do anything if you bought a card with a fake patch on eBay, and frankly I wouldn't reasonably expect them to if it wasn't their fault.

Until the card companies innovate a cost effective way to protect patch cards from altering it's up to us as collectors to be extra careful and continue to inform each other like we've done for years in threads like these.

The only thing I can think of that might work is to use very strong glue to hold the original patch in place and maybe make the back side of the card out of a softer paper stock that would come right out leaving a hole in the card if someone tried to pull a plain swatch.
