I've always loved this sub-set since its debut in 05-06.

- #/50 with a hard-earned autograph and large patch

Issue with 05-06 was the autograph. For whatever reason, they have faded over the years and have never been stellar.

Sometime years later, I realized this is the only subset where UD used game used rookie memorabilia.

Would enjoy learning more about which year and players having GU rookie memorabilia!

PS - Happy Holidays everyone!

Ya, the card stock was too shiny where they autographed the card and it either faded or bubbled. Most of my Gaborik Logos cards from that first year of The Cup have bubbled autos.

Bubbled auto:

Only one with a halfway decent auto:

Enjoy the Holidays, Stephen!

There seemed to be more than one marker size and type used by different players for that year, with varying results. Bertuzzi's were particularly bad. As mentioned the card stock was also not the best for autographs.

There was also game used rookie memorabilia for both Crosby and Ovechkin in 05/06 UD Ultimate dual patches /25 cards. And Hot Materials subset from 05/06 Hot Prospects used Crosby Rookie gamer material, hence the $30 sale prices for a jersey card.

Some of the more recent years Limited Logos did not use "logo" pieces; instead they used number and nameplates which really bothered me since that defeats the whole purpose of Limited Logos. It's like pulling a shield card and having a regular patch instead of the NHL shield.

this is so true and you will always say is the patch fake or real unless you pulled it or know of someone who has or comes from a reliable source you trust

its sad what the hobby is turning into

This is one of my biggest issues. It for some reason really ticks me off when they do that. Logos- not numbers, not nameplates. If you don't have 50 Logo swatches of that player- either SP it or cut them from the set. My two cents.

Logos, shoulder patches, and commemorative patches only IMO. I agree that numbers and nameplates are not "logos". UD has actually improved in this regard compared to some Limited Logos sets in the past. 2008-09 comes to mind as a year that had a lot of number content.

Limited Logos are also my favorite insert set. It's the best of all world basically, a big patch swatch, a hard signed auto, and a reasonable print run that is low but not so low that it's out of reach for the average collector (aside from some of the SP's with print runs of 10).

I have a few nice Logos cards in my PC including the MacKinnon in my sig, which thankfully came direct from UD as a redemption so I know it's the original patch.

I wish I could afford to hoard a lot more Limited Logos cards of my favorite players. It is the set I look forward to seeing the most out of every card season

I believe UD started to use rookie gamers again in 2014-15 Cup LL's and Premier Mega Patches.

I think it was even before 14-15...

I haven't seen the back of the 08-09 LLs, but on the front - it has game-used printed on it. So, the Stamkos and Voracek, etc actually game used?

Also, the Terasenko and MacKinnon I believe are game used from later years as well.

Any confirmation appreciated.

There was also game used rookie memorabilia for both Crosby and Ovechkin in 05/06 UD Ultimate dual patches /25 cards.

For Crosby they were GU, most Ovy for 05-06 Ultimate was surprisingly photoshoot.

That is one sweet MacKinnon!!!

Interesting to hear how much collector's look into the "Logo" word. I've never thought about it like that. I just go nuts when I see 1clr white or black patches. Most were from 05-06, but they are out there.

I believe I'm correct. I confirmed that Stamkos, MacKinnon, and Tarasenko all say event-used on the back of their rookie year LL's. I could not confirm Voracek, but would bet it is event-used as well.

Thanks! This is super confusing... Stamkos states rookie photo shoot. However, it says game used on the card (?!).
