The Ice Box closing

Sad to hear.

Just remember you guys speak with your wallets and posts. Every time you post UD cards that you buy you’re contradicting yourselves when you slam UD in other ways.

They suck, hope someone buys them and makes things better or another licensee is granted an opportunity.

I am guilty of this, I do not collect very much anymore but when i do, it is UD singles or on rare occasions UD product from B+M stores.
However the value just is not in product anymore. where are the HoF'ers? where are the Star players? where is the variety of players?
And I will be honest, I love to dirty Upper Deck, and i guess that has a lot to do with the greasy feeling i get from their products but at the same time i value the singles that i have chosen to PC of theirs very high.

Really miss being able to go into Maple Leaf Sports and shoot the sh$% with Darren and the boys about the sport and hobby while ripping product that was priced well and gave value (miss that tremendously). now it seems the price is based on the gamble of pulling one of 5 cards in the product that will have some value.

Sad.

Sean.

So sad to hear, I wish Wayne all the best.

I have never bought epacks and never well. I collect vintage and do buy some stuff online but I still try my best to support shops as much as possible. I do occasionally but a box from Walmart but that’s with hopes they they will continue to sell them. I miss the day where all drug and cornerstones sold cards and comics. It was a much simpler and more enjoyable time.

I saw a thing on the History Channel yesterday talking about the 90's.

When Napster started, non adaptors where saying "You have to go the traditional way and go to the music store to get your music. Its always been this way". The early adaptors laughed at them when they could simply type in a artist and get their music for free in seconds.

Its the same thing with epack now. Why drive down to your local store, fight traffic in some cases and waste gas when with your smart phone or computer, get your packs online and trade with others with similar interests.

As I said, epack is here to stay and if the others (Topps & Panini) adapt, the traditional hobby store will be "Tower Records-ed".

If the monopoly ends or UD completely loose its licence, people will feel bad having their cards stuck on that epack website.

The only thing stuck on the epack website is base cards. Trust me, they can keep my base cards. Have too many taking up space already :whew:

If UD lose its licence and people want to trade their epack cards for newer licenced cards, they'll have to pay a fortune in shipping to get them in hands.

Upper Deck is only interested in printing cards to feed group breakers that sell volume. That and e-pack is the only thing they care about. I'm looking forward to when Topps enters the hockey market next year.

Sorry to say but epack is the future of the hobby and here to stay. Now if Topps and Panini adopt the same model, stores will be no more :(

Topps and Panini have no need to follow the same model. The demand for Baseball, Basketball and Football cards is HUGE in the states. Hockey is a relatively small market with a huge portion of interest in a small population (Canada). Upper Deck didn't really have a choice being hockey only but to try this or go under in my opinion.
