Oh sweet! Mail day!
CIMG4129.jpg

Wait, why is there a rubber band around the package? Let me flip it over...card proceeds to basically fall out of the mailer

Uh oh, oh great....

Scuff mark on the front near the auto

Huge Crack on the back of the case...

At an angle -- next to the crack, looks like someone took a roll of quarters, placed it on top of the case, and proceeded to stomp as hard as they could!

And....everything at a different angle

I guess I'm lucky the card was slabbed -- and that there is no damage to it. Now, would it be unethical of me to contact the seller asking for a tad bit of compensation. Now -- I know that this is totally not his fault. (DO I have my answer right there?)

On a side note -- received a $100 SP auto today in a white envelope. The sellers name will be going up in the PWE thread later!

I'm guessing your postie is not a Foppa fan.
Sorry to see so much damage, but you can't go after the seller for that. If it's insured though, I'd be checking to see what options you have to be compensated.

It would NOT be unethical for you to ask the seller for a partial refund.

It is their responsibility to deliver the item to you in the same condition as when you purchased it. Most of the damage to slabbed cards comes from there being no protection around the sharp corners of the plastic slab. Personally I wrap ITG cards in some form of cardboard to prevent this from happening - and I have never had a complaint.

No harm in asking - then you have to decide for yourself based on the sellers response. Keep it or return for a refund.

I double-bag the slabs and do ok. Honestly, I'd approach the seller politely. I would also email ITG and see if they're willing to reslab it - I think they have done so for others in similar circumstances for a cost-recovery fee.

Yah doesn't ITG re-slab cards for 25$?
If so, simply crack the case, (as if it isn't cracked enough) and send them the plaque with the card. That should do the trick ;)

That sucks. I've never had this happen to me (touch wood) but in the handful of times I've seen it, it's always either a slabbed ITG card or a graded card. I'm guessing the sorting machines don't like super thick bubble mailers??

How many cards were in that mailer?
I agree that the ethics of the situation do not call for refund of an uninsured item. How can the seller be responsible for what Canada or US Post did to the card if the card was packed securely?

Sorry to hear, Jonathan. That Foppa jersey/auto looked sweet in that slab. Did you go after the Foppa/Sakic dual jsy/auto, too?

I'm sorry to see that happen. Thankfully the card itself is ok.
In answer to your question, I would have to say based on the fact that it was slabbed and sent in the proper postage mailing format, you can't really blame the seller for the U.S. Mail sorting truck running over it (or whatever happened to the card in transit).

I would just contact ITG like Steve suggested and see what they can do to help make it all better :)

That's the chances you take with sending thru the mail , lucky the card is fine . Many have had those re-slabbed and if there is a fee...try to work something out with the seller to cover or split it...whatever

Sorry to see....

I am interested to see how it pans out with ITG, I have a card that I would like to get reslabbed as well. I got it from a seller who had apparently been in contact with ITG and was told they could get it reslabbed for a fee.

I can't believe anyone here would even suggest that the seller is in any way responsible for this and that he should offer up anything a refund. You people are taking Paypals/Ebays "item not as described" to a whole new level. If you really want to disect there policy, then I guess your are right, it didn't come as advertised. However, common sense should tell you this has NOTHING to do with the seller.

To anyone who would file a claim....I hope this exact same thing happens to you, and the buyer uses YOUR same logic and YOU are the one out the cash. and card.

It is totally unfortunate that this happened, but I fail to see how it could have been avoided without personally delivering the card. Hopefully ITG can reslab the card for you.

As for having insurance on the item, in Canada, I have been told that it ONLY covers lost items and not damaged. I don't know if it is the same in the USA and other countries though.
