With this mail post, I'll basically be closing out the first half of the Spring semester of college. This is mail post #10 on the year. I've got some important notes about my plans for the next two weeks, so be sure to read the news and notes section below. Otherwise, this post is pretty much in line with most of the others I've made recently. There's a few cool additions to my collections, and an absolute ton of random stuff that should keep everyone reading. On with the post!

These came from Randy (Orca in the C), who picked them up with me in mind. It's been a long road to find a copy of the Shooting Stars jersey that I was happy with, but my search has ended! Steve (Quincy) sent me one with a plain black swatch. I decided to upgrade it to a two-color white/black swatch, and purchased one on ebay. However, while I was waiting for it to arrive, Randy contacted me with his three-color version, and I knew I had to go after it! The Emerald is a card I've already got, so at the very least, it's a cool extra to have for the collection. Thanks for the trade, Randy!

First, the Christian Ehrhoff RC came from Jeremy (nashfan61). I'm not sure yet of my plans for it. Ehrhoff ripped a few incredible shots last night against the Red Wings, and I was very impressed!
The second card came from Evan (neo1370). As if it was any surprise, it'll be sent along to Chris when we do another trade in a few weeks.

I found this lot of 25 Detroit Vipers cards from a seller in Finland on ebay. My goal for the Detroit Vipers team-issued sets is to complete three sets for each set... but for the 98-99 season, that's proven difficult. Thankfully, this lot helped me out significantly, and I even ended up with a few extras. The lot I received had 25 cards, just two short of the original complete set.
I do have another interesting thing to note. Look at the Ian Hebers card in the top row on the second picture. It's one of the funniest pictures I've ever seen used on a trading card. He looks like he's about to pound the guy on the other end! There's no way a card with that type of photo could ever sneak into an NHL set. Just one more advantage to collecting minor league cards: personality.

00-01 O-Pee-Chee Topps Parallel Sergei Samsonov (/100) (NICE!!!)
There are some rather humorous negative connotations to this card, so I'll get them out of the way first. There was a person who completed this entire set, and decided to break it up. I, and one of my closest colleagues in collecting, Cole (roaddogg1718)... asked about purchasing specific cards from the set, and made reasonable offers. We were both rejected pretty rudely, and it was implied to me by the seller that some of the cards from the set may go for $40-$60 on ebay!
So, the Samsonov was listed on ebay, and as fate would turn out, I was the only bidder. I won the card for a total, shipped, of $4.99 -- exactly ONE CENT LESS than my original offer of $5.00. If that's not sweet justice, I don't know what is.
And now, why is the card important? Player collectors agree that this is another one of the classic pain-in-the-yeah sets that drives us nuts. Thankfully, Samsonov was the final card I needed from the O-Pee-Chee pack parallels. I still need two from the Topps pack parallels, though. Six out of eight total isn't bad at all.

News and notes:
**Well, here's the important stuff. Effective Thursday afternoon, I'll be at home for Spring Break until Monday, March 13. Until then, since I'm not going to take my entire collection home with me, I'll be going on a trading haitus. Yes, I'm basically going to have to go a week and a half without trading. It will be hard, but I think I'll survive. I will be taking home the cards I have up on ebay, so I can mail those out if they sell. Otherwise, here is what I'd appreciate from the members here: if you see a card you want in this mail post, or otherwise want to make a trade with me, make a reminder note to yourself, and hit me up with the request on Monday the 13th. That will certainly work best for myself, and for any interested parties. Thank you!
**However, even though I'll be home, I won't be just quitting cards for 10 days! Two days ago, I received an absolutely gigantic lot of parallels... so large that it might just take up an entire mailpost by itself. I'll be taking those home and sorting through them for a mail post at some point over break. In addition, I do plan to go to the local card show on Wednesday night (the 8th), so I'll certainly want to show off what I find there.
**One question I am asked frequently is how people can help me with my yearly binder project. The best response I can give at this point is to just give me a little more time to do up a wantlist. I have a very large lot of commons currently en route from Tim (TurcoCollector3), and once those are in and sorted out, I will make up a complete wantlist for the yearly binder project. To anyone that has offered to help out with that particular project, I extend a sincere thanks!
**I believe I set a new record for most packages mailed in a single day when I mailed out 11 on this past Monday. I have around 20 packages still on the way to me, which I won't be able to get until after spring break is over. I may need to bring a cardboard box up to my dorm's front desk, just so I can get all my mail into my room. What does this mean for the rest of you? It means plenty of exciting mail posts to come once I'm back at school, and I know I'm certainly looking forward to it.
