Police are looking for a man who on Tuesday night robbed two unlikely sources of cash in adjacent northern suburbs — a clothing store and a hotel front desk.
According to the White Bear Lake police, about 8:30 p.m., a man wearing a stocking mask entered Christopher and Banks clothing store on Lake Avenue, where he forced four employees and customers into a back room at gunpoint and demanded money.
He took cash and cell phones from the victims and fled.
Ramsey County Sheriff's Department investigators believe the same man robbed a Holiday Inn Express near County Road E and Interstate 35E in Vadnais Heights. About 11 p.m., the suspect approached the front desk and demanded money from the safe and cash register, said Sgt. Rolland Martinez, supervisor of the investigations unit.
The man was agitated, threatening to shoot the victims, throwing items on the desk and trying to rip a phone from the desk, Martinez said.
The clerk was explaining he couldn't get into the safe when two hotel guests approached. The man forced them behind the counter and demanded their money, too.
As the clerk handed over money from the cash register, another two guests entered the hotel, Martinez said. The suspect fled.
Martinez said the man also is a suspect in a gas station robbery in Vadnais Heights on Sept. 4.
The man is described as black, between 23 and 25 years old, 5 foot 10 inches tall and about 180 pounds. On Tuesday, he was wearing blue jeans, a dark sweat shirt and baseball cap. His face was covered with a beige nylon, similar to the liners football players wear underneath their helmets.
