Theo Fleury coming back?

I would think as fans that we would all wish him well in his attempt to comeback. There are a lot of troubled people out there who deserve a second chance and Theo is no different. He had a great career which sadly had a bad ending. Theo had a lot of highlight moments and its too bad that all most people remember is the bad parts from the end. Alcohol and drug abuse is a tough thing to kick especially when you play in NY travel all the time and have hords of money. I think Theo should be applauded for kicking the habbit and cleaning himself up.

I wish Theo all the best and I really hope he can make a team and have an impact. I think he can make a few teams but I am not sure if he would offer a big impact. I think 20 goals could be a stretch but who knows. I look forward to seeing him play again, I hope he makes it.

If Theo doesn't score 20 goals over an entire season, there isn't much sense bringing him back - He'd be brought back as a tenacious secondary scoring threat, so while his hands may still be here, he's going to need to have the legs.

I wish him all the best. He's battling demons, and ended things in the NHL in a bad way. I don't blame him for trying to close out his career. Remember, this may have financial considerations for him as well, as I don't think he can even receive his pension while under suspension. So he at least needs to settle with the NHL/ PA on that issue.

As for a role model... meh. People overblow celebrities as role models in my opinion. Sure, it's an inspirational story, and people can feed of off that, maybe take that instance as an example of overcoming something, but hopefully your role models are stable, well rounded, good people that you can look up to in your everyday life, such as your parents, teachers, community members, etc, not a celebrity whom you've never met personally and only get the media side of the story about.

As a teacher, I just want to say thanks. :)

I agree that using celebrities as role models is usually a bad idea. On that note, I think there is an opprtunity here for Theo to show people that someone can go through a bad experience in life, struggle because of it, and come out the other side healthy. There are a lot of people who were abused (I know, nothing has ever been said officially, but come on) as kids that have trouble, but find meaning in their lives once they work through their problems.

I sincerely hope Theo is one of them. It would be a nice way to see him end his career, as opposed to being suspended or cut from a team for alcohol problems.
